The reason I loved Mass Effect One so much is because you totally catered to our intellect. There were very very few plot holes, I was not able to find any and that is a good thing.  This is one of the reasons I fell in love with your games is because you choose to explain every single nook and cranny.

However in Mass Effect II there is Jacob's loyalty mission. I won't go into specifics but thermal clips drop and it doesn't make any sense. How can thermal clips drop before the tech was invented?

PLEASE, PLEASE do not turn into hollywood.  PLEASE respect our intelligence and make sure there are no major plot holes like this. I don't want to have to think about problems such as these.

Your game is enjoyed by many "intelligent" people and it's best if you don't insult our intelligence. This will ensure our loyalty to all your future games.

Thanks for reading and please don't make this mistake again.

.... But wait, maybe you'll address this plot hole in ME3? :P ..... Maybe in ME3 you'll explain how thermal clips dropped on jacob's loyalty mission. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. I dont' want to give spoilers.

Please respect our intelligence, that is what separates your games from other average games.

would love to do this to trolls.

While I agree that the Mechs and Thermal clips being on Aeia long before being brought into service is silly its not really a biggie. Sure, I had a WTF? moment when I stumbled across them, but I've always had an issue with the whole introduction of Thermal Clips as described by lore. What serious military organisation would choose a finite resource over an almost infinite one? Supply lines get stretched and disrupted in wars (where soldiers are needed) and a Gun without a Thermal Clip is just a glorified club. If it were a hybrid system where it switched to overheat system after using them all up, then, yes, it would be an improvement.

One thing, just to play devil's advocate here though is that in fairness to the OP he's posted this in the Non-Spoilers section of the forum so one must be careful about talking about plot inconsistencies (hence my use of Thermal Clips as an example).

you say 'intelligence'? wow. you are idiot. thermal clips are required if weapons are not based on laser beam. when you pull trigger, all weapons get heat (very hot). so it needs to be cool down (otherwise your weapons will be exploded in your hand, then you will die), plus, it's not mass effect one game which give you infinite ammo. it doesn't make any sense. have you ever experienced infinite ammo in other games? if you did, tell me what kind of games?

Only in chemical based weapons (Read gunpowder),  technically magnetically propelled rounds would not generate heat assuming the magnetic field extends down the barrel,  there'd be no friction.

I also find it highly ironic that (Not directed at quoted poster) people who cheer the removal of inventory cheer the inclusion of ammo.  Really?  Not being able to take usefull items to improve yourself is good,  but the inclusion of ammo scrounging is instead an improvement?

Especially since the whole point of ammo scrounging is to force choices in weapon use,  and heighten tension due to limited resources,  neither of which ME2 manages to pull off.

The infinite ammo was "a wizard did it" to begin with. They try to inject some realism back into the game and people go mad.

I think what they need to do is allow sniper rifles to have more shots available since you can exhaust them really quick. You can carry tons of missiles for a rocket launcher but only a few shots for the widow. LOL. They'd have to do real ammo numbers then and have a heat bar which you can cool by using a heat sink. It was just clumsy how they chose to implement it.

I honestly have no problem with the new combat system. I'd like them to bring some of the stuff back from ME1, I'd like the game to be a tad bit longer and I'd LOVE more squad interactions, but aside from that, I thought ME2 was a worthy successor.

And honestly I found the overheating thing very aggravating in ME1.

The guns never had infinite ammo btw, it just seemed like it, the actual ammo was a block of metal, now the weapons need two ammo's to be able to fire.

Tried to add realism to weapons that use mass effect fields to lower the mass of projectiles and fires at them at close to the speed of light? (Slight exageration on the speed, but its bloody fast).

As for the Widdow, while it would be nice to have more shots with it, it does make sense for it to fire so few, its a weapon designed to be fired at Tanks and Krogan, in order to penetrate a Tank you need a hell of a lot of speed which creates a hell of a lot of heat.

If the silliest thing in ME3 is only as bad as having thermal clips in Jacob's loyalty mission it'll be the most coherent CRPG in history.

The issue is that Jacob's father was stranded on Aeia 10 years ago and Thermal Clips were introduced 2 years ago...

So somehow someone seems to have travelled to Aeia in the last 2 years, dropped Thermal Clips around the place and then left....

Same with the Mechs btw, they were not in service 10 years ago according to in game lore.

Its a minor issue, but it is a valid one.

I don't mind the wizards people make mistakes, let it go it does not ruin the whole game and if it does well nothing will be done about it now.

I wish they made a mission where people were firing at you with ME1's unlimited weapons and they did no damage because of shield improvements. That would have been a good explanation for thermal cilps

In all honesty (and I don't know why I'm responding to this thread) but Thermal Clips can be so easily explained away as a RETCON. If they just labelled it as a retcon, yeah it was always that way, people could finally stfu about Jacob's loyalty mission.

Thank you SO much! I posted earlier the same thing, and thought I must be stupid as well because I just didn't understand what the problem was.

Now I realize that I am guilty only of not running through the lore with a fine toothed comb and then harping on each and every discrepancy MST3000 style. Which makes me unacceptably lazy and casual of course, but not as relentlessly stupid as I thought I was earlier.

Wow, the weight that just came off! Posted Image

Five years is an interesting definition of two years. Thermal clips have been in use longer than two years, they just weren't commonly used until two years ago.

If they existed five years ago what makes you think they couldn't have existed ten years ago? Zaeed states that Jessie is older than Shepard, so that "crappy old rifle" he loves so much is well older than ten years old.
