I seriously can't become friends with this guy, even if I use the heart dialouge choices, I somehow end up with rivalry. Can somebody post or link me to some sort of dialouge guide? Or give me some tips? Cause' I'm just about ready to enjoy killing him in the end war...

You have to side with the templars, and either kill or send mages back to the circle. You can't support their freedom movement. Either leave him out of the party during mage quests, or you can have a rivalry friendship with him.

Hm, i remember bringing him along the encounter with the Mage Danzig, you can have him play with him a little, that gives +10 friendship.
There is also something about some slavers... Is that the same quest?
I also think you can get some if you bring him to the dalish first time and oppose the blood magic a little, that shouldn't do anything to Merrills relationship since she isn't a partymember yet.
Bringing him to Flemeth should get another 10+ at least, i remember a companion choise fo him at the alter where he questions Flemeth's creaturic state. (Can you say that?)
Other than that, companion quests!

I took a hard stance against blood magic, demons, and slavery. That was enough to get him to max friendship by act 2 even though I was still pretty nice to most mages. The best quest to gain friendship is the one involving Feynriel the half elf kid. You kill a lot of slavers, which makes Fenris happy. Also if you duel the Arishok one on one with Fenris in your party you get some friendship.

You can also gain a lot of friendship by extorting Thrask for money when he asks you not to talk about his daughter being a blood mage.  Thrask doesn't seem to hold a grudge about it, so just kick everyone out of your party except Fenris when you talk to him.

It's actually really easy, be mean to blood mages, slavers and demons and don't bring him along in quests where you help nice mages.

On the DA Wiki (dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_Age_Wiki) most of the quest pages will mention what actions in that quest will grant friendship or rivalry.

Sorry, I wasn't clear.  I didn't mean side with templars in the final battle.  I meant, you have to support the templars through the game.  Like support Cullen, oppose Thrask. Etc.

You can side with the mages on a couple of quests as I did in Wayward Son and An Act of Mercy.  I managed to keep him mostly neutral in Act One because my Vivianna Hawke (first character) didn't approve of blood magic or demons, but still supported the Starkhaven Mages and Feynierel (sp?).

In Act II, I didn't take him into the Fade.  He essentially asked me not to as much he does that sort of thing and then I completed his personal quest which put me into friendship.  I gave him his gift afterwards and that put more into friendship and trigged "Questioning Beliefs."   I also took him with on Merrill's quest and didn't give her the Dalish artifiact and effectively rivaled her.  That really gave me a good amount of friendship.

I did this mostly on dumb luck, ha.  In a sense you can support mages and still max friendship but you can't support any and everything mage (i.e. blood magic, consorting with demons, etc).

You don't have to support the templars throughout the game. Just leave Fenris out of your party if you're planning on siding with mages in the various side-quests. That's what I generally do, and I max out his friendship either late in Act 2 or early Act 3. Just make sure you support him during his various dialogues. I also tend to be anti-demon and anti-slavery, so I bring him along on Sebastian's first quest in Act 2. Rejecting the demon nets some friendship. Rejecting the demon in Night Terrors also nets friendship. Giving the slave girl during A Bitter Pill money to start her own life also increases your friendship.

Generally, he responds well to diplomatic answers in his personal dialogues. Also, if you don't earn the respect of the Arishok during Act 2, Fenris will propose a duel as a way to settle matters (if he's in your party). Accepting this is a sizeable friendship boost.
