I'll do Entropy and Specializations tomorrow, time to get some sleep now
Glyph of Warding is not affected by Spellpower at all. There are a few other spells that are not affected by Spellpower as well.

It really surprised me as well. I reread the code a few times to be really sure. I can only conclude that chain lightning really sucks...
Yeah it's like they forgot to add the damage that should come from spellpower...
Even if it would be modified by spellpower it still sucks. Fireball is a tier 3 spell and does 60 + .600*SP damage (impact and dot combined) to all targets. In addition it also knocks targets down. That´s a huge difference.
Except fireball hits your allies and is therefore useless if your party is mostly melee. Chain lightning is pretty much the only aoe spell that's safe to cast in such a situation.

I can take a look, any talents in particular?Haasth wrote...
Once you're doing narrowing down everything from Mages. Chance you could check the talents? (Would like to know the Archery numbers too)
Good point, I missed that. I thought Chain Lightning also affected allies. Though it's very easy to get high fire resistance in this game still allowing you to fairly safely drop a fireball on your tank. Also, friendly fire is collateral damage isn't it?Trogdorx

Too bad you have to wade through all that junk to get it.
Interesting thing to note though: no monsters use it. If they would, that would take out those 3 mage parties in a second.

cone of cold really is a winner for me:
open door - move to sides - let enemies move towards u - cone of cold the small door area.

The text description for chain lightning says "friendly fire possible". However, since it's only going to hit for 10 or 5 damage, who cares?
I checked it and the script only looks for hostile targets (at least for the secondary and tertiary targets). I guess it may be possible to cast it on your party member initially though, but unless you cast it on Alistair I don't see why anyone would do that...

- Primary target takes 20 Electricity damage
- Up to 10 secondary hostile targets take 10 Electricity damage
- Up to 40 tertiary hostile targets take 5 Electricity damage
- Does NOT target allies
Does the script say how the forking/retargeting works? What I'm wondering is whether a single hostile can take damage from multiple tertiary bolts. Let's consider a group of 6 enemies, A through F.
Weakest option: Target A takes 20 damage. Targets B through F each take 10 damage. Targets A through F then take an additional 5 damage. Total: A = 25, B-F = 15; 100 total damage
Strongest option: Target A takes 20 damage. Targets B through F each take 10 damage. The bolt on B forks and does 5 damage to A and C-F. The bolt on C forks and does 5 damage to A-B and D-F. The bold on D forks and does 5 damage to A-C and E-F. The bolt on E forks and does 5 damage to A-D and F. And the bolt on F forks and does 5 damage to A-E. Total: A 45, B-F 30, 195 total.
If each secondary bolt forks a maximum number of times up to the spell's cap, striking tertiary targets repeatedly, then the damage per cast when attacking a group of 11 or more enemies is 20 + (10*10) + (40*5)= 320 which is not awful for a single instant-cast spell.

You raise a good point. I reread it to figure out what exactly happens and it works like follows:
- Initial target is hit for 20 damage
- Up to 10 chained targets are hit (there seems to be a bug here though, or maybe a nerf since the code calculates a cap of more than 10 targets depending on the spellpower, but it is never used)
- Each of the chained targets pass the lightning on to 4 other targets at most
- There can be three generations of chained targets at most
- The damage taken depends on the generation of the target, the initial target takes 20 damage, the first generation takes 10 damage, the second generation takes 6.67 damage, the third generation takes 5 damage
This means that it can actually do some respectable damage indeed. On average (depending on how the forks will spread) and given enough targets the primary target will take around 67 damage and the secondary targets around 57 damage if I´m calculating it correctly.

So ... mana cleanse costs 40, and reduces target's mana by 40+.4sp ?
I think I'll skip that one.
