It was sort of implied, but not explicitly stated that the Grey Warden who performs the ritual has to be the one who kills the Archdemon.

Female Warden proves you wrong.

Does she? I was curious about this. I never played a female through to the end. If Alistair performs the ritual, is he the one that kills the Archdemon?

Now that I think about it, you have the same option for a male warden, too. You can send her to Alistair. Does he kill the archdemon in that case?

Edit: Although that still doesn't prove me wrong. It just proves that the Wardens THINK it has to be the same one as who did the ritual.

Zevran is heading to Antiva, to take care of the crows... otherwise it would look like all of your old party is meeting back up.

Wait... are we assuming a new protagonist? Because I was assuming Hawke...

I am asuming a new protagonist, as that's the trend so far. Plus, the game looooks to be taking place on Orlais

That means Probobly Cassandra. Possibly Still on the Hunt for the Champion, herhaps doing Her duty as a seeker once more.

Also, Probobly Not Bethany/Carver because they could have had Onscreen Deaths.

Remember, these are Companions, Not just Cameos.

regarding bethany/carver i won't put bioware putting as companion which i'm for. but seems they are both popular. sides has death bioware in dragon age yet?

as for companions da3 i assume we are as hawke

everyone that stayed loyal to you at the end if you choose to have them back.

In my playthrough, my Warden was engaged to Alistair (Human Noble), accepted Morrigan's offer and killed the Archdemon. Alistair was in the party and there was no dialogue scene between my Warden and Alistair. It just cut to my Warden killing the Archdemon.

However, in the same playthrough (different ending to get the Perfectionist Achievement) my Warden didn't accept Morrigan's ritual. When it came to killing the Archdemon, Alistair and my Warden argued about who should kill the Archdemon. No matter the dialogue choices, Alstair killed the Archdemon even though my Warden was willing to do so. I believe that happened because they were in a romance.

Been thinking about this...

Considering what Liliana says at the end by saying it's in the hands of the Maker now, I can't see her coming back. (That's what she said in my ending when talking to Cassandra.)

Liliana did say that the disappearance of the hero of Feralden and champion of Kirkwall isn't a coincidence, so I can see them returning.

Bohdan and Sandal get an offer from Orlais to work there.

If I remember correctly, Zevran is heading to Orlais.

Alistair is concerned about Orlais so I can see him returning.

Maybe Morrigan.

I think next stop would be Orlais with a new player character, and possibly something about the Tevinter Imperium.

If Morrigan's ritual isn't accepted by the Warden, in the epligoue it hints that someone of her description was in Orlais and even "insinuated herself into the empress's court."

So, I agree with you. It seems like Orlais will have a huge part to play in the next game whether it's the main setting of the game or not.

Cassandra would be a cool companion, makes perfect sense too if you're playing as hawke again.since well she's looking for you.

Cullan could be a really cool character too, because they improved on him so much in DA2 and even siding with the mages in the end Cullan seems still cool with you

i could see a majority of the DA2 crew returning, and maybe even your brother/sister if they live and are on good terms with you at the end.

Stroud was a good suggestion too. cus he seemed important even though i didnt know why lol

So Alistair performed the ritual with Morrigan, but it was the Warden who kills the Archdemon? That would support my "Riordan Clause". Since it obviously doesn't have to be the same Warden, it doesn't matter who killed the Archdemon, as long as someone did that day.

DA3 - we play a new character and start in Orlais

Bohdan and Sandal (obviously)
Cullen - he's survived Uldred and Meredith. He needs a trifecta.
Ella - the circle mage you save during Anders quest. Bethany mentions her in a letter and Ella also sends a follow up letter.
The rest of them, will be new.

I hope we get a smexy Orlesian male bard for a companion and LI

The first time I played the game Anders killed Ella, so for some players she will be dead.  Not that death ever stopped anyone from coming back, it seems.  I think Sandal and Cullen are very likely though.

Except that Morrigan explicitly stated that Riordan wouldn't work because he's too tainted.

It doesn't matter which of the new wardens did the ritual. The ritual was a primer, to get her pregnant with the seed of a newly tainted warden. All she needed from the ritual warden was his genetic material.

Then she needed the essence, the important part. Which, if you do not take her with you to the tower ritual or no, is explicitly shown going into the warden that kills the archdemon. I thought they explained this very concretely, if you don't do the ritual, there's no god baby. If you don't take her to the tower, there's no god baby. She can get pregnant by the warden if you romance her as well, but that baby isn't a god baby unless you do the ritual and bring her to the tower. It's just a baby.

That's not to say they can't retcon it later, but leaving it as is, it's very clear what happened and how the ritual was supposed to work.

Cullen, all the way. I mean, there has got to be a reason they decided to give Anders a new voice actor instead of Cullen, right? Cullen was so minor in the first game it wouldn't have mattered if he had a new voice... unless he had a bigger role to play later.

I really hope the next game is in Tevinter. It'd be a great contrast to see the difference between Kirkwall, a place where mages are so heavily oppressed, and Tevinter, where they rule all.

I reckon it'll be set in Orlais, so Leliana would surely be involved.

Of course, I think it would depend on the protagonist. If it's Hawke again, I hope his/her former comrades return. And Cullen seems a likely choice, given his role this time. Possibly the Grey Warden you run into as well. (The one with the 'stache). Of course, doesn't Cassandra say something about how the Warden (from DAO) is missing as well, so maybe they will be involved.

The number one person I think of returning as a companion is Stroud. The way he showed up at the end of Act II and immediately disappears foreshadowing greater threats. Then again maybe I'm blowing his importance up.

Cassandra is another likely companion, I doubt they'll make her the main character, as that would take away from the choice of gender, but I can completely see her in the next game. Sadly, her presence in the DA3 would lead me to believe that Cullen will be left out, that and the fact that he is most likely to lead the Templars in Kirkwall following Meredith's demise.

I can't see the Hero of Ferelden actually making a visual appearance, how many people will be pissed off if the Warden doesn't look exactly like he or she did in their play-through. The Warden will obviously be important in the next game, but I don't see the Hero or the Champion as companion characters.

Anders started with a substantial amount of screen time and got even more later, yet they gave him a new voice.

The bolded part is definetly not true. I never once took her to the final battle, and she never complained. If she was required to be there, I never heard of it until now. And I've done that part many times. If you choose not to take her, you'd think she'd complain about the ritual being a waste or something, but no. As had been said, though, there's nothing to stop her from shapeshifting into a bird and being there.

As for the rest... perhaps it could still work with an older warden, it's just not the ideal set up. I don't recall her ever mentioning Riordan, though. I can't find any dialogue about that, either.

I think we're definitely going to Orlais next, so I would hope a new companion would be a Chevalier. Preferrably male because I have a massive Knight in Shining Armor weakness. :P

I personally hope there's a new lead character who is a Chantry seeker. 'The Seeker'? It's a perfect hero name!

It is true, as far as I recall. She specifically reminds you to take her because she has to be there in close proximity when it is killed. And when you ask about Riordan she does indeed say he's not suited to her purpose because he has had the taint too long. But anyway, I'm through arguing about this, it's getting OT.

i had the god baby and i left her to defend the gates. she doesnt have to be right there for it to work.

Cass
Cullen
Stroud
I'm hoping for Nathaniel Howe...with nothing changed about his personality
Surviving Sibling
Non-Tranquil Fenryhiel or however you spell his name
Sebastian...though he's in Starkhaven
Isabela(I don't think the Qunari can kill her. It's Isabela, for crying out loud)

I don't know who will be the new companions, but I don't think any of the old ones will return. Maybe Leliana, but I doubt it. Cassandra, on the other hand...

Anyways, if this game is in Orlais, what I really want is a Loghain cameo. He was sent to Orlais in The Awakening, so it would be likely to see him there.

And bi.

I actually think that the idea of Cassandra* as companion isn't that far-fetched. Beyond that, no one was particularly foreshadowed. I just hope we get a new cast. Fully half of the DAII companions were returning from Origins (even if their parts were small). I didn't mind it, but I'd rather they not do it twice in a row.

True. But we don't know for sure that DA3 is set during or after DA2. The DLC could consume more time, or they could skip ahead. DA3 may be set 5 years, 10 years, or more after the events of DA2. "The world has been at war for nearly a decade. The people need a hero. They need ... YOU."

But no, despite all that, I seriously doubt the OGB would be a companion. But he could be a potential side-character, depending on decisions or whatnot. Then again, if you had told me that Anders, Merrill, and Isabela would be companions in DA2 long before they announced it, I doubt I would have believed it. We will likely be surprised...

Cassandra and Varric are definitely going to be companions again.

Maaaaayyybbbeeee Leliana, to tie DA1 to DA2.

And a mabari hound for kicks.

The other folks will probably be Cameos.
