So, are there any perks for having completed the game? What about replays of an existing character?

So, how does it work? Do you really have to start from absolute scratch in each new playthrough? Are there no benefits for having completed the game? It doesn't seem like there are. And it doesn't seem like you can replay a completed character with all their loot from the beginning, or did I just not find that feature? If both of these situations are correct, how much does that suck?

Nope... no perks. Also, your storage chest is completely empty when you get back to the mansion. Surprise! >.>

Well, how on earth do people accumulate enough wealth to buy the items that cost over a hundred sovereigns? I'm really scratching my head here, it's like they didn't think anyone would ever replay the game, or want to replay a character they created already. Facepalming over this missed opportunity here.

DA Origins' economy was similar in that you had limited gold and several high priced items you may have wanted. The player simply had to make a choice. This dynamic changed when the DLC was out since they provided more loot and high powered items.

I ended the my first DA2 play through with over 140g but I never bought anything expensive. It is possible to buy one or two of the high priced items.

You don't really NEED to buy any of the more expensive items, you can usually get just as good stuff from loot drops and chests. However, if you are careful how you spend your money and are thorough in your questing and exploring, you can get a good amount of money accumulated. Not a whole hoard of cash but a good enough lot to get you the things you need..

If you're a classic RPG nerd where you have to have THE BEST GEAR EVER when you face the final boss, I have one word that will solve your money problem: exploits.

I think I gathered about 300g total over the entire game.  As long as you buy big ticket items only for yourself you should have enough.  You defintely can't outfit your entire party.

And there's definitely no way to replay a completed character? That's a pretty big oversight, if you ask me.

I think I might need twenty or thirty more words, what are exploits?

Well DAO didn't have NG+ or any Bioware series besides Mass Effect. Though to be fair I do agree with you and love replaying my Shepard multiple times, but this isn't an oversight on the DA team as more of a design choice by the ME team (which almost didn't make it into ME2).

DAO had a condition where you could craft lyrium potions and sell them at a profit. DAOA had something similar with runecrafting.

I'm sure someone will work out something similar that allows players a tedious-but-feasible means to make money.

Currently the best way to inflate your money is to not use the potions that drop and sell them religiously. Also, don't buy potions. By selling the potions (heal, mana, stamina, injury) you can net close to a gold each full sell off. The key is knowing that the game has a high chance to add potions to your loot drops/containers if you are below your cap for the difficulty level. 8 for Hard, 12 for Normal, I think.
You can also stack runes of fortune in all your armor slots and wear the plus coin items.
On Hard, I amassed about 125g before starting the Deep Roads Expedition- and I know now I missed some gold by not extorting more people.
