Ok, so the all in all consensus of how to NOT kill Arishok is make sure Isabela's friendship rating is over 50 so that she brings back the book relic?

This is insufficient. In order to ensure she comes back, you actually need to raise Isabela's approval (friendship *or* rivalry) to 50% to trigger the Questioning Beliefs quest, and then you need to complete Questioning Beliefs in order to ensure she stays. This is an important point, because you must complete Questioning Beliefs before you go to the quest location in To Catch a Thief, or she won't return later.

If you're unsure about how to go about this, please click the FAQ in my sig. Cheers.

As twisted as it may sound to most people, I'd be happy if he were an LI and ran away with FemHawke straight outta Kirkwall, because honestly, I just finished Deep Roads and some side quests and I want out of Kirkwall soooo so bad.

You have to have her at a high friendship or rivarly or she won't come back. As for avoiding the fight, you can only do it if you give her up. Its not worth it though. Wish there was a third way to avoid fighting him, but there isn't really.

High Friendship is not 50% of the bar, it is over 50% of the bar, meaning that the bar has to be filled out to like 75%-80% to the friendship side. I thought I could have her come back because I misjudged this situation. Also, as I've stated before, I'm colorblind - and it really didn't help that that the frienedship and rivalry bars where put together as one with same shades of red? mixing together.

The Qun is a lot less appealing than the Qunari make it out to be. Anyone that doesn't submit to the Qun is shown no mercy.

According to The Qun everyone has choice.  Choose to submit, or die.  But it's choice.  Choose the role you are given in the Qun, or die.  But it's a choice.

It's like Burger King or McDonalds.  Coke or Pepsi.  There are no other choices.

All joking aside - it was Sten that made me think the Qun was kind of neat, it was DA2 that made me realize Sten was kind of neat and the Qunari were idiots.  I've written book sized posts on why their culture will eventually implode.

Not even that. It's submit or submit(-er). They don't like to waste life by killing people. So, they just give a drug to the people that don't submit to the Qun, to turn them into a mindless laborer. I'm guessing the "mindless laborers" are something like zombies (voodoo, not hollywood).

I did not know that - I just went by the Arishok's explanation of "freedom" within the Qun.

I do remember Sten telling Loghain that Qunari do not waste resources and that life is the most precious resource.

Out of curiousity, where did you get this information about "lobotimizing (my word not yours)" folks into submission?"

It was in a dialogue between Fenris and Isabela.

[*]Fenris: I still can't believe Hawke saved you.
[*]Isabela: You've been saying that for years. Would you have turned me over to the Qunari?
[*]Fenris: No, but I know what they do to their prisoners.
[*]Isabela: Execute them horribly, I imagine.
[*]Fenris: The Qunari waste nothing. They would reeducate you into a loyal follower of the Qun.
[*]Isabela: Pfft. Could I refuse?
[*]Fenris: There's always qamek, which turns you into a mindless laborer. Like I said, they waste nothing.
[*]Isabela: Oh.
[*]Fenris: If you wish to thank Hawke, he's/she's standing right there.

OH THAT'S RIIIIIGGHT!

I remember now. So much detail in DA-verse. I forget stuff despite being a 60 hour a week gamer with 3 games in my Library (DAO full, DA2, and SC2, the 3rd of which requiring little attention to detail).

I also (on my first run) lost her when she ran off with the book since I had no clue how to build up her friendship to keep her. I ended up fighting him with my group since I also didn't have Fenris that game either, having missed his pick up quest in Act 1.

Getting Isabella to come back is easy. Alway go for the Heart dialogue option when it is available and chose to help Isabella recover the book at the end of Act 2. You can tell if Isabella will return. If she beds your character, before the end of Act 2, she will return.

If you lose Isabella, you lose all her quests in Act 3 and one of them gets you a unique crafting resource.

Lol even if you let Arishok have Isabella, she escapes with the Tomb.

Unable to deal with the shame the Arishok commits suicide.....lol choices!
