Mike Laidlaw's running down of DA:O is to be expected given that he wasn't the real lead designer, just a last minute hire to do the console port. DA:O wasn't his baby, it was Brent Knowles, so Mike set out to make DA2 as different as possible from DA:O in order to distinguish it. He purged Brent's vision from the series and the result is the fiasco that is DA2. And now he's in utter denial that people hated his vision of DA, hence his selective reading.
