Ok, first off, I've only started on the Mass Effect novels in the past 2 weeks. I finished Ascension last night, and Retribution should be arriving this week. Also, the 4th book mentions Gillian Grayson learning to understand and control her powers, and it's released before Mass Effect 3.

I'm still a little hazy on the timeline, but could Gillian Grayson be our Jack in Mass Effect 3? She's young, with the potential to be an amazingly powerful biotic. I'd love to see a true crossover with the novels.

However, as I said, the timeline is a bit hazy to me, but I'm sure a lot of you guys know more than I do.

From what I understand, Gillian is age 12/13 around the events of Sovereign attacking the Citadel. But, Gillian will be "busy" for 4 or 5 years (No spoilers!). Mass Effect 2 takes place 2 years after Sovereign's attack (right?). Could there possibly be a 2/3 year gap between Mass Effect 2 and 3? I'd say it's highly unlikely, considering the Reapers were already on their way at the end of Mass Effect 2. Maybe they're just really, really, really, really, really far away

With the 4th novel coming out before Mass Effect 3, it's really not going to deal with a time after the Reapers have been taken care of. So, surely the timelines must tie in. Maybe Gillian comes back early? Maybe Shepard hunts her down for a squadmate?

Or, maybe she'll have nothing to do with Mass Effect 3. I just found it strange that the next novel is coming out a month or two before the game, seems like a prequel to meeeee

i dont see her as a squadmate because well pretty much keep the me2 crew. but i wouldnt mind a cameo by her though

She's autistic. This is Mass Effect, not Minecraft.

Nah...it'd be cool in some respect...but wouldn't fit well. We already experienced Jack...too much repetition in that department is not a good thing. Both her and Jack are too similar. Regardless...she isn't very interesting personality wise...even Sten has more flavor than her. Haha!

She now has a face, and quite an amazing body as well. I'd say her chances of appearing in Mass 3 just went up massively; at this point I can only see her being excluded if she dies in the novel.

Guys. Don't hold your breath for Deception. Honestly. I just finished reading Dietz's latest book "Heaven's Devils" and was not impressed. The book was good, but that's what I'd expect from someone writing a book about one of my favorite games. But Drew, MAN was he good. Dietz on the other hand.... not so much. I'm fully expecting to be disappointed by Deception but am buying it anyway because it's Mass Effect.

I'm really worried now as Drew's books were... Very mediocre in my book. (Pun intended.)

Yeah, I was about to post the novel cover.

Also, *ARRIVAL SPOILERS*

I've just finished my first playthrough, but didn't they say that, by destroying the relay, the Reapers would be set back by a couple of months, or even a year or two? MOAR time for Gillian

I've been asking for this since ME, hopefully Gilian, Lemm, Hedal (a gay romance potion), and Kai leng are the only new squadmates.

Probably not a squadmate. She's pretty young, although she'd make an interesting character. Kinda like the young girl in KOTOR.

Gillian is frigging 14 or 15 years old. She's not cut out to be a squadmate but alas, in Kotor we had Mission Vao and she did pretty well. Who knows... but I'm not expecting her to be a squaddie.

I don't think she would be interesting as a squadmate. She's too much like Jack + autism. Wouldn't be the most social of people. Although her looks in the Deception cover are...quite attractive. :innocent:

First of all, Jack is like Gillian, not the other way around.

Jack is older in the story, but Gillian was created before Jack was(by the writers).

And Gillian would be of an acceptable age to be a squadmate. I don't care if she is or isn't. If she's written into the trilogy of games, I just hope she's written WELL.

Players wont accept her unless she's a LI too... Or at least an apprentice that has a crush on Shepard.

Oh God no.

If she does end up a squadmate, she definitely needs to be non-romanceable.

But it would be pretty funny if she had a crush on Shepard(regardless of gender or a crush on male Shepard and sort of a "little sister" relationship with FemShep).

I mean, she's 16. Crushes are to be expected. And I'm not referring to the biotic kind.

Or we could all just treat her like our little sister.

Shepard - So I hear that you haven't been getting along with the crew that well.
Gillian - Talk to much... Don't like their company.
Shepard - You talk to me though.
Gillian - I like talking with you.
Shepard - I see...
Shepard's Thoughts - Sweet! I now have a cute little sister that Mom never gave me! Joker is going to be so jealous! Think of all the fights I'll get into to keep unworthy fools away!
Gillian's Thoughts - I wonder if he/she likes me...

That would be kinda cute, but there has to be a limit. I mean it.

I agree. It has to be cute and innocent without being turned into some "SHEPARD DOESN'T LOVE ME, *CRIES*" situation.

I thought this too (i'm making my way through ascension at the moment so trying not to read too many posts here), now she has a face - i LOVE the front cover to Deception - and with the book coming out just before the game it will definitely be building us up (like Revelation for ME1 canon wise). She would be right up bioware's street as a quirky (and moving) squadmate, as well as having obvious combat utility. someone suggested she would be like a little sister, i think that's a lovely idea. Considering how well they managed legion's interactions in ME2 I feel, particularly if further developed, gillian has the potential to be the perfect addition to our team. she's the sort of challenge that the bioware writers should be screaming out for XD

edit: anyone know how gillian is pronounced?

Gillian is pronounced, "Jill-e-an"

Like Jack and Jill went up a hill and Jill hit Jack with a Biotic Charge because his dumb self was cheating on her with Rodriguez.
