I wouldn't mind having her as a squad mate as long as she's not crazy like Jack then I'm fine with it

Gillian is pronounced, "Jill-e-an"

Like Jack and Jill went up a hill and Jill hit Jack with a Biotic Charge because his dumb self was cheating on her with Rodriguez.

 lol, thanks. beautifully explained!

I wouldn't be comfortable leading a child into a battle that would most likely get her killed.

I hope not. I'd rather not see anyone from the novels or comics make it to the game. Not to mention she's too young.

Yeah, she's what, 16?

I have unwritten rule that says people (not counting synthetics) should be at least 20 to join up, because I don't want to be their misfit family member.

Besides, I have enough biotic women on my team.^_^

Then Tali was barely able to join up by your standards in ME1.

You're welcome.

Anyway, Gillian has high-functioning autism/Asperger's syndrome.  Now, if she was twelve in 2183, she'd be between fifteen and seventeen by the time ME3 rolls around.  So technically, she's still a kid.  A smart kid, mind you, and a damn powerful biotic, but still just a kid.

I had a close friend in high school that had Asperger's.  I haven't seen her in a few years, so she's stuck in my mind as 16/17.  She was, for the most part, normal, but she would often stare off into space, had a lot of trouble reading subtext in conversations, and easily became obsessed or depressed over relatively small things.  She never came across as anything more than "kind of weird," and in our little circle of friends she learned to socialize and interact with others.  She even wound up dating my friend and fellow drama geek, Jared.  AFAIK, they're still dating.  It's been like, what?  Three, four years?  Not sure; I really don' hear much from Jared except through his little brother (who trolls me on the internet).

Now, Gillian has the potential to be a fascinating character, and the fact that she's still a kid could result in some serious drama and moral conflict.  However, I am wary of making her a squadmate for three reasons:

1. She's still a kid.  Yeah, it worked with River Tam, but it makes me nervous.

2. The high-functioning autism.  The media has a habit of cheapening/making a spectacle out of this sort of thing.  I'm worried that this aspect of her character will either be entirely glossed over or simply presented the wrong way.

3. With one and two combined, I'm afraid I might get a little freaked out.  If she reminds me too much of Tamara, I'm going to get squeamish.  This already happened to me with Ashley, who acts way too much like my best friend in real life for me to be comfortable with.  Creepy.

I'm not against her being on the squad, but I think it's a can of worms best left unopened.

Please keep the characters from the books out of the game.

Sure, why not? Wasn't Mission Vao in KOTOR like, 14 or something? To say nothing of Wild Flower (though obviously she never fought in her human form).

I really don't mind Gillian as a squad mate in ME3. In fact, it really surprises me how autism has become very involved in the Mass Effect story, let alone in video games in general. First David Archer and now Gillian Grayson. Being how I suffer from high-functioning autism myself, I'm quite touched that BioWare took the risk to involve autism in Mass Effect, a video game series no less. Not only will there be another character that we can get to know and relate to, but I personally can get to relate to a character that suffers from the same condition that I have had my whole life, that is if FOX News doesn't screw us over again. If Gillian doesn't make it into ME3 I'll be fine with that, but in my honest opinion it would be very good for the game and that it would further add more to the backstory of what has been going on outside of Shepard's part of the story and it could give us a chance to resolve our issues with Anderson and arrest Kai Leng for Aria and his crimes against innocent alien civilians.

P.S. Our squad mates better have MEANINGFUL dialogue in ALL of the missions that take place in the game this time, EVEN the DLC.

P.P.S. I SOOO want to take down those Terra Firma jackals.

I think the response towards Gillian may of had a minor role in the work behind David Archer.

But yeah, if they can write Gillian to be a mature well thinking person(with her autism still coming into effect at some points depending on how its progressed since Ascension), I'd love to have her in the game.

My question would be that now that the reapers are here...Is there a safe place left in this galexy?

I don't think I've seen a game where an autistic person was ever a main character, let alone one who could crush your spine with a wave of her hand.

It'd make for a damn interesting character.

Um yeah, my brother suffers from asperger's syndrome. He was taken away from any sort of medical staff support at a young age, and (for all intents and purposes) is now merely a drug addict. He hasn't been in school since he was 13, doesn't work, gets high daily and lives off my mum - ****ed up his life pretty royally. He's in and out of court for all sorts of things (there are injunctions to stop me talking about some of them :pinched:), frequently spends the night in his local police station (he isn't 18 till next year). There is an extent to which he is utterly cold, has no perception of morality, can't understand when other people are upset, in fact, the list could go on indefinitely, but my point is. He used to be good at tennis. It was almost impossible to get him to play for more than a few minutes (we have long since given up), but when he did he was incredible... if he wasn't so handicapped he could have made a career out of it. He would win tournaments and thrash proffessionals twice his age.. something about the way he thought could perfectly predict the flight of the ball etc, I've probably given too much information, but i don't think it would damage the game to have to persuade gillian to fight, and whenever you go talk to her she needs nurturing in some way. There is a level at which gameplay would take precedence, but it wouldn't be a plot hole or anything if you just had to explain a lot to her, and grit your teeth when you weren't getting anywhere (maybe get kahlee involved).. but if she is included, she will not be as difficult as she would be in real life, because that would damage the enjoyment of the game - something i'm pretty sure most gamers would understand
