like any specific triggers for them? or are they completely random, i remember in DA:O sometimes they were compeltely random but there was a few spots that if you ran over it'd autotrigger them. like the bridge in orzimmar to the provings.

so i was just wondering if anyones found any banter trigger sites. sorry if this has been asked before

Enter an area and walk a bit - banter. Walk back and travel to different area.

Rinse and repeat.

Hanged Man night -> Hanged Man day -> Hanged Man night -> Hanged Man day.

The game seems to notice when you try to cheat it though, so if your companions stop chatting, switch out another group and go to a different location.

Also there are different varieties of random dialog dependant on the area, and on occasion party composition. Inside the hangedman, for instance. Try taking Fenris and Anders with you and clicking on Fenris to hear a bit of snipy banter between the two past the stairs up. Or Fenris and Varrick, then it goes slighly different, but still funny :).

Pretty sure there are some other random banter/sole companion comment spots that require you to actually click on the companion to hear what they say. Blooming rose, for instance :)

I used Hightown >> The Rose (staircase) >> Hightown (heading left once outside the Rose) >> rinse and repeat. When I wanted to change characters, I'd head to the Hanged Man and use the stairs before heading back to Hightown.

Entering the Wounded Coast usually triggers one immediately, and about halfway between the entrance to Sundermount and the Dalish Camp.

I tend to use the same people all the time though and they seem to run out of things to say pretty quick. Awkward. :P

There are certain sets of stairs or steps that almost always trigger conversations. I don't remember them all, but definitely the stairs leading to Varric's room at The Hanging Man and (I think) the steps leading to the Vicount's building... and the stairs leading down to Avaline's office. I know there are others (maybe the steps along the path to Sundermount?) and at least one set of steps in Lowtown and Darktown.

I often stopped on stairs/steps in anticipation of a conversation.

Party banter doesn't occur in nighttime areas does it? I always found myself running around darkened lowtown/hightown etc in eery silence. Makes me realise how much the banter livens things up or makes things seem more natural. Companions just comment that there's coin to be made clearing out gangs.

High town -> Few steps into the square right in front of you -> Go back zone to low town -> Few steps down the stairs -> Back to High Town.

Keep in mind Banter seems location dependent, and is definitely act dependent. I have exhausted all conversation using that then while traveling elsewhere got a new set of Banter.

I have the party walk into Merrill's house, walk out, take a couple steps to get the banter started, walk back in, and do it again and again. Some banters only seem to fire after certain game events or in certain areas, though. so you won't run out of banters completely until Act 3.

Lowtown middle stairs for sure, Hightown in the area with the merchants on your way toward the stairs to go to Lowtow, Wounded Coast in a couple of places on the roads to the caves, darktown when you go down the first flight of stairs as if going toward the docks, lowtown on the way toward the alienage from the docks

That's all the ones I can remember. There are quite a few.

I found the best one to be the chantry, since it's right by the zone (door).
