So what were some brilliantly written quests?

Just off the top of my head, hooking up Aveline with Donnic was absolutely brilliant (as well as hilarious if you bring Isabella along). In the same regard, the quest for Isabella where you have to pretend to turn her in and slap her around was equally as entertaining.
As far as great dramatic writing, I thought the entire quest where you must escort the Qunari mage outside of Kirkwall and confront his clan was engaging and ended beautifully.
What were some of your favorite quest and writing moments of DA2?

I think if I had to pick, that was my favorite quest. It spoke about the depth of conviction the people have to the Qun, and their sense of belonging to their purpose more than anything else could in mere words. That, and it made me really question whether the Qunari mages truly felt victimized. It was almost as though their belief in their philosophy truly did transcend personal feeling or opinion. Anyway, Incredible quest. Would love to know who wrote that one, and the Qunari quests in general.
Luke will be pleased to hear the compliments about Shepherding Wolves and the other qunari quests. I wrote the climax in Act 2, but everything else about the Qunari in DA2-- and the Arishok in particular-- was all his doing. Any kudos should go to him.

You do meet up with her in Act III, daytime in the Alienage. In my playthrough, at least, she ended up joining the guard. There's a bit of extra dialogue if you have Aveline in your party.
You must have killed him. She ends up quite differently if you spared him.
Tonia Laird, our writing intern, plunked away at Magistrate's Orders as her first full writing task-- designing the quest from top to bottom (with guidance from myself and Jennifer). I think she did an excellent job.

~ A Bitter Pill - there's just an amazing MOOD to this quest, and I found myself totally possessed by Fenris's feelings. I'm really curious who the HELL did animation for Fenris, because his subtle facial expressions and eye movements were just amazing, you can see entire novels written in his face and this quest (and Alone, which I LIKED better but wasn't quite as well written, imo) was awesome for that. Fenris's face is so expressive, far and away the best animated character. He's like a real person.
That would have been Sarah, the cinematic designer on my team. She would come into my office almost every day asking for background on what Fenris was like, how he might move, etc. If you can imagine me mimicking Fenris ("he sort of turns his head aside, like 'no, I can't...'") and she would get all excited and run off to make it perfect.
I'm really happy with how those scenes turned out.

Definitely All That Remains.
I mean, my God. The complete shock at the beginning, the suspense, the terror, the loss, the amazing voice acting of Jo Wyatt (have yet to play a BeardHawke), it's all just so wonderfully macabre.
It had me crying like a little girl at the end. Which is actually a first when it comes to games.
Whoever wrote that questline has gained an infinite amount of approval points, as far as I'm concerned.
Thanks! That would have been Sheryl and myself. It was probably my favorite quest to design, and almost got cut twice. The fact the artists got excited about it and made a new body for Leandra without us even asking for one made it impossible for us to refuse to do the extra work.

Aside from the fact that I was completely shocked at Leandra's death, I was a bit freaked out by the zombie-like Leandra walking towards Hawke not knowing her intention at first. After that, I couldn't stop staring at the stitches on the neck till the scene was over.
When I tell somone at work the plan for a plot and there stare at me in horror and say something along the lines of "OMG you can't DO THAT" that's when I know it's a keeper. We were discussing another plot recently that got an even bigger reaction from people outside the writing room... and that's when the writers and I look at each other and share a moment of deliciously evil glee.
But that's how we roll, I guess. When I look for writers to put on my team, I ask for the sadists.
How I ended up with most of the girls is a question best left to sociologists, I suspect.

I can't imagine BioWare employs a lot of writers, since you guys only have two franchises and one MMO going on right now.
They tend to keep the majority of the same writers on the same franchise - this tends to help with maintaining consistent tone, writing style, that sort of thing.
