So what were some brilliantly written quests?

Oh, yes, Ketojan... It really moved me. I also thought for a moment he was going to be the 'secret companion'. It really beat me that I couldn't save him.

The bit where they kidnap your sibling/companion was very stressful. I only got over Leandra's death and was SO scared something was going to happen to Bethany, too. For my Hawke it felt like history repeating, she was so scared she would be too late - again.

Off-topic, @shantisands, could I steal your Anders Fenris signature? It's so pretty. :)

It maybe simple but I liked the one where we gave Aveline her shield. I sold Wesley's shield early on in the game, and she brought that up when I gave the new shield to her.

@Siradix I actually thought it was a pretty deep conversation, I loved it, too. Aveline on the whole is written just brilliantly.

There are so many, I'm having a hard time coming up with ones that weren't well written. I don't count the random find an object hand it in quests because...what were those? That was random. Uh. Maybe the quest that's completely bugged and impossible to do anything with (Who needs rescuing?)

I agree with others that I love the amount of reaction companions had in this game. I only wanted more. I love the dialogues after All That's Left. Gamlen railed at my mage Hawke and even said he wasn't sure if she shouldn't be locked away, but it was obvious he was responding out of grief. Anders tries to be comforting. I loved that Hawke could yell at Aveline in the same way that Gamlen just yelled at her, and Aveline's reaction. I only wish Hawke had the option to go back and apologize for saying that, but she seemed to know why she did it anyway.

Ketojan was a big one. That amulet he gives Hawke? Kept it the entire game. In the inventory even. Remember this moment indeed.

If it's a side quest or a plot quest in Act 2 then the writing's golden.

My favorite side quest is actually a required main quest. It's All That Remains. I really enjoyed that quest as a male Hawke but if you play that as a Female Hawke...wow that voice actress's barely contained disgust and panic pulled at my heart. Well done performance in one of the better quests in the game.

I think if I had to pick, that was my favorite quest.   It spoke about the depth of conviction the people have to the Qun, and their sense of belonging to their purpose more than anything else could in mere words. That, and it made me really question whether the Qunari mages truly felt victimized.  It was almost as though their belief in their philosophy truly did transcend personal feeling or opinion.  Anyway,  Incredible quest.   Would love to know who wrote that one, and the Qunari quests in general.

Luke will be pleased to hear the compliments about Shepherding Wolves and the other qunari quests. I wrote the climax in Act 2, but everything else about the Qunari in DA2-- and the Arishok in particular-- was all his doing. Any kudos should go to him.

I only wish there had been a follow up to this quest, so I could see what consequences my actions had on the girl.

You do meet up with her in Act III, daytime in the Alienage. In my playthrough, at least, she ended up joining the guard. There's a bit of extra dialogue if you have Aveline in your party.

You must have killed him. She ends up quite differently if you spared him.

Tonia Laird, our writing intern, plunked away at Magistrate's Orders as her first full writing task-- designing the quest from top to bottom (with guidance from myself and Jennifer). I think she did an excellent job.

That man deserves a raise! Three playthroughs and I can't skip a LINE of dialogue from the Arishok.

I'm curious too...but I don't think I could let the guy live, even out of curiousity.

The first time I played that mission and it came to that choice, there were no more investigating dialogue options. I sat there and stared at the screen for a long time. If I kill him, the Magistrate will very likely become my enemy and who knows what he'll end up doing to hinder my progress. But if I let this guy go people will die. Innocent elven children will die and I'll get a little favor from the Magistrate.

I let Fenris pop his wicked heart and the personal consquences be damned, elven children are saved.

i feel like there is something wrong me, the stuff most people like i didn't like. I totally respect that everyone appreciates those quests, i personally don't get it.

Ah well, goes to show that everyone can take something good from DA2, even morons like me :)

I loved the Qunari's speech at the Viscount's hall. The Arishock really reminds me of Irenicus sometimes.

I don't know about brilliant writing, but one of the quests I enjoyed the most was the Aveline/Donnic quest. It was pure comedy, especially if you have Isabela in the group. The way they go at each others throats made me laugh.

After playing the whole game with a sarcastic male hawke, I can truly say that I enjoyed the writing. Very well done!

I know! I freaked out when I saw Bethany on the ground. I thought she was dead. That is one of my favorite quests.

The Act 2 finale.

The whole thing, which is actually three missions. The bit with Isabela and the book, bringing Aveline and her guards to meet the Arishok and then the attack on the Keep.

From the moment you walk into your house and find Isabela and Aveline standing there you're on the edge of your seat. Everything about the Qunari situation was escalated to the point that you know there's no peaceful solution.

And then you find out that the Qunari are just here for a book. A simple little book! Give them the book! Yes, everyone's happy.

Isabela runs off with it and it's so in-character and it's entirely what you'd expect Isabela to do. And the whole Qunari battle starts and you have this lump in your gut that keeps nagging at you. It keeps saying, "This was all avoidable."

It ends with a duel with the Airshok and the Viscount's ignoble death. AND Isabela can come back! How cool is that finale?

Shepherding Wolves was awesome

The Arishok was awesome. as was every quest with him

Carver in Act III made we want to bro-hug him "The Hawke brothers, together again"

Most moving line in any quest for me would be the one where the Dreamer kid gets rescued from the slavers and confronts Mage!Hawke with panicked cliches like about how no one understands hm and how can he trust them and Hawke just held out his hand, lit it on fire and said "Because I am you". Perfect moment of mage solidarity

Varric's Solo Assault on the Bartrand estate. That was epic, I felt like Tony Montana with Bianca popping heads off.

Aveline's "The Long Road" quest. It's hilarious, especially if you bring along Isabela.
All main quests that involve Qunari - they were the best part of the main plot.
"All that remains" quest - a real shocker that one and quite dramatic.

Okay, thankyou both for this. I must have missed her - I'm pleased there is a follow up, though :) And thanks Tonia, great job there - definitely one of the more disturbing quests! x

So Luke wrote the Qunari stuff as well as Aveline? Well he's just awesome then, yes?

This, without a shadow of a doubt. I liked it so much I made the dialogue my signature Image IPB

Does anyone know who wrote 'Family Matters?' Because I owe them a cookie Image IPB

The Qunari were the show stoppers. That was an expertly written sequence of events.

I'm glad you guys liked it. Mary Kirby
did an excellent job with writing and David Sims with the Tech Design.
And I got to go in and pretend I was combining Sergio Leone with Indiana
Jones ;)

I actually left that to the very end of the project. It
was my treat for finishing working on the more mundane stuff. My only
disappointment is I never got the Ennio Moricone treatment on the Varric
theme.

This is easily one of the best parts of the entire game. B)

Also Varric's haunted, Aveline's courtship and the Qunari questline were absolutly brilliant.
