See title. It means the last game before DA2 for the pedantic.

People like saving the world. It empowers them. Hence you see it in games a lot.

Well, there are some. My last was Fallout:New Vegas. But especially with fantasy and science-fiction it often boils down to saving the world (or at least the place where the game is set) from destruction. So i like the smaller personal/political scope of DAII.

Left 4 Dead

You know i take that back? Red Dead Redemption was the last game I played that did not have a "Save the world" plot element.

I think the OP is asking how many RPG's you have played that don't have you saving the world. Not games in general.

Uhm, Prince of Persia Sands of Time mayhaps, you are just saving a damn castle, dunno about the effect on the rest of the world.

If not that, then Star Wars Republic Commando.

In that case, Fallout I was the last one. You only stop the world becoming an even crappier place.

Fallout3, way I play does not usually end well for the NPC's. Or New vegas that was messy.

I like to play old games I've missed from time to time and in the last months I've played Shadow of the Colossus, GTA IV and RDR. Great games without "let's save the world once again" plot. Especially SotC. Best game ever.

May I ask the point of your question OP? Are you trying to say that there is a reason companies stick to the tried and true hero saves the world or that it's a refreshing change of pace?

Seriously I would say... NWN2 - Mask of The Betrayer

Saving the world is... an option but becoming a spirit eater and went against the gods was more fun XD

But unfortunately it's a "let's save the world once again" story .

Persona 3, Persona 4, Pokemymon, Harvest Moon games, Resonance of Fate, Fallout 3, Valkyria Chronicles etc etc...

And Planescape: Torment isn't about "saving the world" as I remember it. It's about rediscovering who you are.

There's plenty in other words. A lot more do have the "saving the world" theme but I like both, as long as it's well done.

EDIT: Actually, saying "both" feels wrong. I want to say that I like ANY story that is well written and executed.

What he said, especially the Persona games.

Also: Digital Devil Saga, Disagaea, Fallout 2, Thief, Deus Ex, Skies of Arcadia (At least for most of the game), ICO.

Call of Pripyat.

The story is, (I think, the first thing I did was enable Russian VO) 'some helicopters crashed. Go find out why.'

I still don't know why, as I don't speak Russian.

The game theme was: "what can change the nature of a man?".

I was looking at my Digital Devil Saga covers and trying to remember how DDS2 ends. I think it's about time for a replay :)

Assuming you're refering to RPGs specifically... Drakensang II: River of Time.
Apart from single player RPGs I play mostly MMORPGs these days, but as those rarely have real story I won't count them (though my most recent one does have something of a "save the world" metaplot).
