Nothing feels more MANLY/WOMANLY than saving the world and getting laid afterwards.

What, I had to say it.

Who are you, Bond?

No, I'm Bond, James Bond, and not just Bond.

You have to say all of it or I must later kill you. The Book of being a BAMF dictates that I do as such.

Persona 3, Persona 4, Pokemymon, Harvest Moon games, Resonance of Fate, Fallout 3, Valkyria Chronicles etc etc...

And Planescape: Torment isn't about "saving the world" as I remember it. It's about rediscovering who you are.

There's plenty in other words. A lot more do have the "saving the world" theme but I like both, as long as it's well done.

EDIT: Actually, saying "both" feels wrong. I want to say that I like ANY story that is well written and executed.

Wait...what.

Persona 3 was about saving the world from Nyx. It's never outright said "We have to save the world!" but your kind of trying to stop Nyx from destroying all of human kind's will to live.

Technically true, but you don't find this out until the last few hours of gameplay. The overall game is far more about exploring the Tower and interacting with your friends.

Same kinda deal with Skies of Arcadia. Technically your end goal is to save the world from Ramirez and the Silver Star people, but you don't realize that until you're three quarters of the way into the game. Before that, you're fighting against an empire and just generally being a freaking air pirate.

God I love that game.

The game I played right before DA2 was Mafia 2. Definitely not a "save the world" plot.

The upgrade is the best "vehicle" ever , tied with Ragnarok.

Ah true but the plot still has a "save the world" theme. Even from the beginning it was about killing Shadows and making sure they didn't hurt people.

And the last 2 months is far more than a few hours.

Never played SoA.

I would prefer a good save-the-world-plot to a bad plot that condisired to be good just because it's not about it.

Catherine, the latest Atlus game, it was about cheating on your girlfriend and getting sent to nightmare-ish dream realm every night where if you don't escape your murderous girlfriend you'd end up dead in the real world as well.

Rome: Total War. No saving the world, just taking it over.

Well, I've started Fallout: New Vegas, but put it away after about 10 hours of wandering. I got further into Borderlands and Torchlight, but both of those were shelved in favor of DA2. Hmm, not a lot of RPG's not built around saving the world/galaxy. The last one that didn't involve saving the world may have been Planescape!

That last game where I didn't save the world was Tetris. I'm surprised that Bioware didn't make a Tetris-clone game out of the destruction of the Chantry.

I don't really know. Maybe God of War, you pretty much kill and destroy everything regardless of the consequences.

Not to mention the final showdown sound track is named "the Battle for Everyone's Souls" Posted Image

Persona 4 is similar in that regard -- the ultimate fight is about preserving the hearts of all people -- their ability to see and care for others than oneself.

Arkham Asylum, Civ 5, Dawn of War: Soulstorm... and I guess SSB: Brawl are all in recent memory. Fairly certain that Arkham Asylum was the "last" one played.
