Call of Pripyat.

The story is, (I think, the first thing I did was enable Russian VO) 'some helicopters crashed. Go find out why.'

I still don't know why, as I don't speak Russian.

There's more to the story than that :)

I can understand why you enabled the Russian VO though. "Hey bro!" gets old pretty quickly.

On my current playthrough, I enabled the Russian voices, with the exception of story-specific moments. I'd like to at least figure out what's going on ;)

But this is rather off-topic.

Heavy Rain was the last of those for me. Loved every minute of it, because the story was so intensely personal.

Possibly Bulletstorm in my case. Possibly because in a sense it's very easy to understand what's going on, but when you really think about it you accomplish basically nothing in the entire game.

That probably wasn't really the point to begin with. A lot of people did die in different ways.

It still has a "save the world" plot. You don't really succeed in the game, but you're working towards that goal.

I was playing New Vegas just the other day, that doesn't have a save the world plot. Yet it left you feeling pretty empowered for the role you played in shaping the future of post-war Nevada.

The only person you save in ME2 is John Connor.

Read my statement again then. I didn't say you saved the world. But that is basically the plot. They even say at one point that the collectors are going to target Earth. Shepard responds "not if we stop them". Whether you save the world or not is a little unclear, but that IS what the plot is about.

errr maybe Sims 2 lol oh no wait The Darkness or Assasin's Creed. I won't count Civilization Revolution cause I always send them into space which I count as saving the world.

Well, I go ages sometimes without playing any games and the previous games I played to DA2 were DA:O, Fable 3, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and that is going back to beginning of 2010 which are all basically save the world, or the immediate vacinity from certain destruction and or evil.

RPGs specifically? I guess Fallout: New Vegas.

Any game? The last non-strategy was Psychonauts.

Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway. It centered around the failed Operation Market Garden.

Funnily enough, the guy that voiced Fenris is in it.

Fallout new vegas. Played it a few months ago. They somehow managed to pull of a story that didnt involve saving the world yet still made it interesting! Something for me DA2 failed at. Maybe just the size of overall content helped with this?

What was the reason for the question out of interest?

I think he was trying to prove some point that all RPGs are world saving like DAO and that DA2 was special because it's different but in reality thats not the case.

In fact, FFXII didn't really have a "save the world" plot that was overt at all. It was much more complex than that. It took many turns and eventually sort of turned into that, but it was actually never fully made clear that there was an enormous threat to the whole world that needed to be vanquished. It was more intricate. The nethicite posed such a threat in the wrong hands, but Ashe's motivations for gaining it's power were very two sided up until the very end.

I really loved FFXII's story. The hunts in the game distracted you from it a lot, but if you play the game and ignore the very time consuming hunts, you'll realize that the plot was very well thought out and cool.

For non-RPGs, Dead Space 2. For RPGs, Fallout: New Vegas.

For RPGs, Planescape: Torment - discounting that some of the others I can think of were more "save the continent" or "save the city" or "stop this before it gets out of hand and could maybe threaten more than this town" and not necessarily the whole world. .
