Ah, the perennial multiplayer thread. Personally, I wouldn't mind co-op, and I think it would add a lot of fun and replayability to the game. But people need to stop twitching over this. Implementing multiplayer, if it ever happens, is not exactly going to affect the writing or anything else. It's not like the writers are suddenly going to be drafted into the multiplayer programming division.

I also remember Chris Priestly's post about this, but this also the man who said that the Mass Effect franchise would *never* be on the PS3...

The moderator apparently should have written "BioWare does not comment on rumors," instead of  hinting that Mass Effect 3 doesn't have multiplayer, and the post shouldn't be taken as definitive fact. Could this mean that the game will feature Mass Effect deathmatch after all?

Christ Priestly (or anyone else from Bioware for that matter) has NOT commented on whether there will be multiplayer in Mass Effect 3.  That is why people keep asking because Bioware are refusing to officially comment on it.  You have to wonder why Bioware are being so vague about the whole issue though.

knowing ea there gona come out with a multiplayer spinoff wich is fine because im done with the franchise after 3. lets face it spinoffs are great for companies to milk to death. look at halo for example. just because multiplayer is the hottest new thing now dosent mean its the best thing for mass effect 3. and btw i just pmed chris so hopefully he will shed light on what i have mentioned about last year

first off slap nuts i am not a troll. secondly all i said was to pm chris and yet people are to p*ssy to do that. and if i remember correctly i was  here longer than you.

A few things:

1st-- If you wanna convice someone your not a troll, don't tell them to "slap nuts" (whatever that means?).

2nd-- How long you've been here means nothing to me. You could have been here since before the sun was born and I still wouldn't care. Your opinion is just as important as mine and mine is no more important than yours: End of story.

3rd-- I made my post before you started telling people to PM Evil Chris (still, I'm not going to). So complaining that I complained (yep, figure that one out) is irrelevant.

4th-- I just like the number 4.

Then if they are going to do a spin off multiplayer Mass Effect why was Pacifen wrong to state that "Mass Effect 3 is a single player game" ?  As you can see from the link I posted Bioware were quick to correct the fact that Pacifen should not have stated it was single player only.

This is why the MP question keeps arising, it is because it has not been settled.  There has been no Bioware rep stating categorically that there will be no MP in ME 3.  Trust me if I had seen a Bioware rep saying that it would be in my bookmarks and I would use it constantly to tell people there is no MP.

you know what my  beef is on these boards? everyday i come on here i see people b*tch moan and cry like some children. lets face it the reason why alot of people didnt like me2 is because fans f*cked it up by saying oooh take out the mako or add this bla bla bla. hell even people complain about the new arrival dlc and the truth is its not the devs fault its the fans. no matter what the devs do you people arent happy. i admit im not innocent either but i enjoy these games alot and i dont want it to end  with multiplayer fanboys getting what they want. i never complained about you to evil chris i pmed him to clarify what he said last year wich was no co/op and no multiplayer in me3. its staying the way it is.

maybe because he couldnt give any info of me3 out yet.... remember the chat they had 2 days ago? they avoided questions about me3 when fans asked them. no offence to pacifen but the only people id trust when it comes to intel is hudson, norman, and preistly

Well until we actually get an official statement from Bioware that there will be no multiplayer in ME 3 it is wrong to dismiss people by saying "Chris said there was no mp in ME 3" especially if you can't back that up with a link.  The reason people keep asking about mp is because Bioware has not officially commented on whether there will be mp in ME 3 or not.

1: I DON'T want MP in ME. However, there has been no evidence that ME3 will not have MP. None. I am not some fanboy who wants MP (again, I don't) I just like when the truth is out there.

The fact that they haven't discounted it yet means it is entirely possible. That's the reality. Another reality is this: just about any modern AAA game with both modes, from any developer, has a nerfed single player campaign. ME2 was easily 30+ hrs. Do you guys seriously think Bioware has the same financial backing as Infinity Ward? Why in the world do fans want to see multiplayer at the expense of single player? Why do they want to jettison what has made Mass Effect unique? Didn't Bioware already recycle maps in both DA2 and ME1? And you think single player won't take a hit..

What baffles me is we have 80% of shooters striving to do the same thing, and fans want the remaining 20% to conform.

i hate multiplayer because it ruins what can be an epic game. thats why when i see threads on that it should be in the 3rd game i go ape sh*t.. the problem with gaming today its more multiplayer based than  what it was back during when gaming was original. the mass effect franchise is great because it sticks to that originality and away from whats popular in the gaming world like multiplayer and co-op

Don't worry about coming off too heated, I figured something had just ruffled your feathers and, if I stayed calm, eventually you would calm back down. 

As for your comment: I don't think this is a new trend. The video game industry has always chased what was 'cool'. I remember when I was a kid 3d games were coming out because they were seen as cool, and, yet again, were back where we started.

This idea of chasing coolness is in EVERYTHING. Its in highschool, movies, books, television, and even in politics. Its always been that way, and eventually it will all just shift back to where it began. Usually the only times you realize that people are "chasing the cool" is when they are running away from what you like and towards something on the other side of the spectrum.

This is the exact concern I have.  I would say that AC:Brotherhood is an excellent example, except that the multiplayer is really good.  It is just the single player that is subpar.

Spin-off multiplayer (ME:ODST), I am cool with.  But BioWare does not have a track-record with competitive multiplayer, and a bad experience could seriously harm ME3's reception.

ME multiplayer co-op main missions, yes. With two human players against AI I think players can manage in realtime without the pause function.

Every man for himself PvP, no. ME is not designed around twitch gamplay nor are classes balanced for PvP.

i don't think that would work, would have to be more like an alternative game mode where you and your friends could all bring your shep and experience some type of open world together, but if bioware can't handle making a multiplayer feature without it affecting single player then DON'T DO IT!!! also i don't think adding mp is trying to be cool, its just fun to game with friends.
