Why do you people say that it's pointless to have more than one rogue in the party? Stop claiming things without any real basis to them.
Origins was more liberal in the way you could build your party besides the fact that mages could just dominate the battlefield. DA2 is a lot different and running without at least one of each class is not really viable.
The difference is that Varric's specialization tree is more dps oriented and Isabella's is more defensive. Another problem with Isabella is that DW rogues tend to underperform if not controlled directly making Varric a more compelling choice.
I have absolutely zero knowledge on the Sebastian DLC so I can't comment on that.
Has anyone not used varric in their party?

You have no basis to claim that having more than one rogue isn't pointless either. Funny how that works.
Heres why I believe it is pointless:
- I don't need a lockpicker since Hawke can do it
- I have more talent points at my disposal as Hawke, making me a more effective rogue
- Rogues are the only ones who can apply disorient and cannot exploit it themselves. Likewise for warriors/stagger and mages/brittle. Thus having 2 or more rogues reduces the amount of CCCs you can take advantage of, making fights longer and more difficult.

It is funny how it works isn't it?
I'm using Anders as a buffer with Heroic Aura, Haste and Elemental Weapons. These combined make any non-mage to be extremely powerful especially using basic attacks. I'm playing either an archer with Fenris or DW with Aveline.
I'm specced in the Sabotage tree with Fatigue Fog to DISORIENT foes for Aveline. I'm taking out STAGGERED targets. Varric is specced in the Archery tree and is used to kill targets that Anders applied BRITTLE to.
Overall even without CCC the damage output is amazing.
Just because another rogue wouldn't be useful to the way your current party is built does not make it a universal rule.

- I max out the Specialist (use either Precision or Speed)

- max out his Marksman tree (especially Bianca Song, Well Oiled and Overtime)

- put on Bursting Arrow & Hail of Arrow (Full Upgrade) for some AoE;)
- 'Haste' buff from mage:alien:
