I read in another forum that when you equip it on a mage , it gives the mage no cooldown for spells?
I didn't even notice it didn't have a 2H skill requirement until I've read this. I'm surprised no one has brought this up.

If thats true, that would make it the sickest weapon in the game. I'm playing as a Warrior so I can't test it, but has anyone ever tested this out?

What's the location and requirements to arm it?  I'm starting a new mage and may test it out.

Can't you test it on Anders, Bethany or Merrill?

Doesn't work.

It's actually called 'Void's Hammer', can be bought from Magnus's Wares on the Wounded Coast in Act II, and requires 33 strength to equip. A mage can equip it, as there is indeed no two-handed requirement, but it doesn't disable or reduce cooldown in any way. I tested it with Blood Magic, Healing Aura, Heal, and Arcane Shield.

You could still try building a melee mage with it though :-)

The hammer wont reduce your cooldown or anything but I will severly reduce your cast time I tested it on my mage. Your mage will just do a very quick forward slash when casting a spell instead of the usual animation for example doing the slash when casting tempest instead of the whole arm raising bit and then being able to almost instantly cast your next spell also gets rid of that annoying 5 attack animation that can slow down your commands

Anyone notice that if equip Hawke or a companion with "Void's Hammer", you're also allowed to equip them with a shield?

according to the wiki

"When equiped on a mage this allows for a exploit where all spells cast at the speed of a normal melee swing and the spells Winter's Grasp, Fireball, Stonefist, Chain lightning, and Spirit Bolt lose their cooldowns. as a result those five spells can be used as rapidly as the Warrior Ability "Bolster". Does its base damage affect spell damage numbers? It's worthless if its not giving any form of damage boost.

You get the hammer in act 2 on the wounded coast from the merchant Magus, it costs 27 sovereign.

It affects mage spells' damage just like a staff of the same power as far as I can tell. I've tested it with the visual add item mod. So end game you will be doing less damage per spell, but you will be a f-ing machine gun of doom.

Tested it with Merril:
As soon as she swings the hammer, the spell is cast, and as soon as she resets (as in the hammer attack animation is over) she can immediately cast the same spell again.

Something for your blood mage compendium suicidal.
