I've been reading certain topics and I've come to formulate my own idea about whats going on and what happened in Kirkwall. Is there a specified place where the old gods were corrupted? From what I see the Tevinter Mages could have easily entered the fade from Kirkwall and permanently altered the vaill in that area. This added to all the deaths and wars happened must have severly thinned the veil... How else were there so many blood mages? What about the Pride Demons appearing during the last straw? This thin area led to anyone who moved there being corrupted. Notice how most people in Kirkwall tend to keep to themselves and hate outsiders like Fereldens. Many of the citizens were drove to madeness by things happeneing in Kirkwall. Also, during the final battle all those demons were unleashed, they saw the perfect opportunity to get what they wanted.. Freedom now that the rest of Kirkwall was in chaos.
The second part would be what I think about the Idol. Obviously it is evil , but it didn't match the power of the Demons. Bertrand wasn't corrupted by Anger, Desire, Sloth, or Pride, he went completely insane! I think the idol has something to do with the Arch Demon and I'll even go far enough to say that its a Manifestation of an old Gods soul and being beneath Kirkwall was no accident...
Notice how Kirkwall also happens to be in the Center of Thedas, what if this war was planned by the Idol to unleash this demons and destroy the people of Ferelden to weaken them for the next blight? Also, the presence of chantry agent and the gray warden echo sinister going ons as well... Far beyond just the mage and templar war.
Just some thoughts, curious what everyone else thinks.
