Isabela: Bisexual for obvious reasons
Anders: ??? Don't get it here, I mean when Awakening came he was introduced mostly as a straight character, read somewhere on some news that all he wanted was to be free and a girl, not sure why they made him Bi, maybe since he fused with Justice and that somewhat changed him or something, can't think other reasons...
Fenris: ??? Still don't get it why he's Bi? I mean he got brainwashed by the ritual to infuse him with lyrium, and he sayed once he refused to get close to anybody, not sure why he turned Bi
Merrill: ??? This one I really can't imagine beeing Bi, I mean the Dalish have a tradition for maintaining elven blood or something, and can't see her as Bi...
Sebastian: Straight for obvious reasons, i guess he could have been only gay since he lived in the chantry for so many years and all among men...
As you can see, there's not much background for almost all, (all if u don't got exiled prince dlc) for bisexual romances, i thought that one will be straight, one will be gay and one or two bi, not all bi, seems a bit of fanservice don't u think?

Ok, I know most of us read in the news that DA II will feature romance options for all genders and orientations, but some of them are clearly lacking the reason why are bisexual, let's take a look:
There needs to be a reason?

Also, was it explicitly stated in Awakening that Anders wasn't bi? I didn't play it. If it was stated he liked women, there's no reason he couldn't also like men.

Nope. While he mentions wanting a pretty girl and will lightly flirt with a female Warden, that doesn't necessarily mean he was straight (as you said), and some people believe some of the dialogue with a male Warden and Nathaniel were a bit flirty (YMMV).

As for the rest ... Why would Fenris not be bi (or gay, depending on how how you look at it)? Maybe he had the same orientation before the infusion.
Same with Merril. Just because she'd be expected to marry and have children, why could she not also be interested in women? People have been gay and bi throughout history, even when it's been expected of them to procreate.
Or you can ignore what I've said above and just answer this: why would Fenris and Merril not be gay or bisexual. Provde me with a reason.

Or, it's simply left ambiguous.

With Fenris, I don't think it matters about orientation. He says he never allowed anyone to get close. He's letting Hawke get close. The end.
With Merrill,I have to agree with what Taura-Tierno said.

I don't see why you need to reason for people to be bi. I'll make a stupid assumption that the OP is straight, then why are you straight?

Maybe it's just me... But I thought you don't choose your sexuality, there's no life event that triggers your gay/bi gene. You're born the way you are, and you discovered your sexuality early or late in your life. Some people know it right away what they want with their life, others kind of need to test a bit to see what they like.

I would argue that people aren't born a specific sexual orientation, they develop one; I think most aspects of human sexuality are a big mix of nature and nurture and the events that occur in one's life have an impact on all parts of sexuality from orientation to gender identity and expression... but yes, people don't pick.
I would also imagine that there are a good number of people who are monosexual than they think. Many folks I'v spoken to will identify as ****** or heterosexual yet have one or two people that didn't fit that trend.
I like that the characters are bisexual. I like that I get to play a gay man and go after the guy I want, instead of being closed off based on the sex of my character.

They're all bi because from a gameplay perspective, you have more than one option available to you. If we need reasons to justify their bisexuality then fine, feel free to draw your own conclusions.
Honestly, Fenris and Merrill seem to be more of the "subjective" types. They don't provide you much backstory about their personal lives beyond the blood mage/slave aspect. You're left to interpret them however you like. Only in a non-romance path will you actually discover that Fenris and Isabela are having some sort of sexual relationship.
Isabela and Anders, to me, are more legitimately defined as bisexuals. Isabela has openly proclaimed her interest in both men and women since Origins while Anders divulges the fact that he was romantically involved with a guy. I never thought of Anders being exclusively straight even in Awakening. He doesn't say much about his personal life besides constantly talking about women. I think he's always been fond of men; just that he hadn't come to terms with it until later. Although his revelation does sort of implicate that he met Karl while he was still in the Circle (pre-Awakening).

I'm not sure that Merrill was really flirting with Carver. It would totally seem that way, but I'm not sure there was any intent on her part.

Although, I read that Anders only mentions Karl being his "first" if male Hawke is trying to romance him. Of course, that still doesn't mean he couldn't possibly be bisexual.

That's a refreshing idea, and it make sense to me. But it also opens the door for parents who believes they can "educate" their children to be straight or gay (mostly they want them straight lol), and further more, parents will blame society and media for "exposing" their children to different sexual orentation.
I personally believes we're ALL born bisexual. Some of us attracted more to obsite sex, some of us attracted more to the same sex. Some of us goes back and forth....
I don't mind characters being bi. The story don't really mention their previous experience, but even if they do, and they end up interested in female, while romancing a male Hawke, I won't mind.
Besides, the way I see it, everytime you start a new game, everything is being shuffled and start anew with you. Anders is straight in previous run through, he might be gay this time.

Yes, that could be true. They could also actually be bisexual. Since they don't talk about it, it's really up to the player to believe whatever she wants

I tried to argue each play through is a different world in another thread.
and people think I'm either dillusional or stupid. LOL.

No, it's just that some people get really upset about the idea that the character might be different across different playthroughs.
