Where Would Bethany be Happier?

Personally, I'd rather the younger sibs find their place in the world on their own, so I'm more at ease with leaving the twins at home rather than handing them off the the Wardens. It's their life; it should be their say how they want to spend it.

Well, Hawke has no way of knowing what would happen in the Deep Roads. He/she has no idea that the sibling will be affected by the Blight and, with that foreknowledge, bring Anders along. So Hawke really isn't deciding the sibling's life for him/her. Seeking out the Grey Wardens is really just a desperate attempt to keep the sibling alive.

A 30 year sentence isn't great, she'll die when she's 48. But it isn't terrible either, medieval life expectancies being what they were especially as a mage in the current era.
Plus, you never know, maybe they'll recognize sparing Avernus in a meaningful way and indicate that his research has been imparted to the Wardens in general and increased their life expectency.
I found a potion made by Avernus on one of my playthroughs, it gave me attribute-points.

Hmm... When you put it that way, bringing them along doesn't make me feel so bad about being the big sister/brother who dictates the younger sibling's future.ThePasserby wrote...

Still, the Warden path sucks in the sense that it's the only option left for Bethany/Carver after some point as opposed to leaving them to care for mother at home where they can decide what to do with their lives themselves. Metagaming taken into account, I much prefer the latter.

If I was actually Hawke, there is no way I would let Bethany in the Deep Roads, and from a nobility point of view it makes no sense for both remaining children to go running into danger. As some of you may know, I have an aversion to the Grey Wardens, and Bethany clearly doesn't want to spend her whole life fighting. Someone said that the Warden lifespan of around thirty years is offset by the average life expectancy of the middle ages anyway, but let's not forget that this wasn't always the case: Edward III and William Marshal lived into their sixties and seventies respectively; so this is another reason why I don't like the idea of her joing the Wardens. She's happier in the Circle, comparatively speaking, and even though she is caught up in the mage-templar war; nevertheless in the end Hawke is finally in a position to protect her. That, for me, is easily the best ending, and I hope any DLC furthers this subplot.

So I kind of got the feeling that's what happens to canon Carver.

True for you, but Bethany wants nothing more than living in peace and die old

Being a mage in Kirkwall is more of a death sentence than being a grey warden.

Also, Wardens, since it's after the Fifth Blight, probably garner respect akin to Chevaliers. So really, you're turning Bethany into a superhero. Like a Ferelden Superman or something.

Yeah, but with metagaming I know that I will get her out of the circle at the end of the game anyway. In my first playthrough i thought the same like you about the circle and made her a warden.

Except that's not what happens to her in the Circle. The Circle collapses, and she says she never realized how free she was when she was running until she joined the Circle, and now she has purpose in helping free mages from other Circles.
Grey Warden isn't bad, but Circle is significantly better for Bethanny in the grand scheme. She wanted to see what it was like, she got to, and now she's free again and fighting for what she believes in.

She seems doing all right in the Circle.
Even if she would be happier as a Warden, that's a death sentence.
This is what I don't get. People always come back to this, even Bethany moped about it the whole time. The average time it takes for a warden to start succumbing to the taint and take the Calling to the deep roads (or whatever it was called) is like three decades. 30 years. Where's the death sentence in that?
In a world like Thedas, with war, crime, disease and poverty all over the place, do you honestly believe most people even live to being 50? Yet that's the age Bethany would be when it was her time. Sure, it's remotely possible that someone might survive a decade or two beyond that, but really it's not *that* big a loss. Some random source I just browsed claimed that in the middle ages (roughly the same time as when DA takes place, difference being in magic), royalty lived the longest and even in their case the age of 50 was about the max. Commoners as a rule died before the age of 45.

Hmph, that sucks. How many people are going to take two mages on that excursion? This play through is going to be even more of a downer for me than my 1st in which at least Carver ended up as a templar. All my familyis going to bite the dust in this one.

How is it not a death sentence? Anything limiting someone's lifespan is a death sentence, whether it's thirty minutes or thirty years. If smoking was a direct cause of death then to smoke would be to sign your own death warrant, how ever far down the line it may be.

On the last two playthroughs, I brought *three* mages to pretty much all my missions - what's wrong with that?

First of all, DA'verse does not take place as the same time as the middle ages. DA'verse is realm with healing mage and where potions thath heal all wounds can be made from common weeds.Zan Mura wrote...

Sorry, but fantasy != middle ages. It's a pet peeve of mine.
That said. Yeah, calling a live expectancy of some 30 years after the joining a death sentence is being a wee bit dramatic. One should be more concerned with the fact that as a Grey Warden Bethany now has a job that has her actively seeking out darkspawn.
That and the fact that her being infected with the taint apparently almost turned her into an emotional wreck.

Being Warden, especially outside of Blights and if you are not exactly the Hero of Ferelden, is a rather bad job.
