I've thought about this a lot myself. She ends up in the Circle in my canon, mainly because I had no use for her in my Deep Roads expedition party with Varric already there. As a Dragon Age enthusiast I'm happy with that conclusion. Though it must be said that Hawke himself would have no inkling of either the Joining Ritual or the Calling as the Grey Wardens keep those as closely guarded secrets.

Bethany has always thought it may be better to be in the circle. Too bad you can not send her to the Ferelden Circle.

If you notice in her mails, etc. Bethany is actually a follower of the chant of light (she corresponds with her old reverend mother). SHE believes that she should be in the circle, she just has not put herself in it because of her mother/family and fear of what they will do to her as an active Apostate.

She asks Aveline to check up on the kirkwall circle for her, etc.

So yeah, she wants to be in the circle and is happier there. My Warrior Hawke took her with him in the deep roads, and turned her to a grey warden to keep her alive. SHe may not be happy but she is alive and away from Merideth.

My Rogue Hawke ended up leaving her at home. Came home, she was being taken so I was all manly and said "over my dead body" and then picked her luggage up, opened the door, led them out of the house, gave Cullen some fresh baked cookies, etc. (That really irritates me, should have had them beat me down or SOMETHING, not just say it and then let them leave and pass a threat/insult at you).

That annoys me too.

Well Bethany appears not to like Hawke, because he made her a Warden. Seems she would rather die than do that.

In the Circle she seems happier.

Believe me the dieing is much worse than being a warden probably from Bethany's point of view and certainly from her sibling when it comes down to the crunch.  I hated having to do away with her in the deep roads in my play through last night.

With great power comes great responsibility. I have no doubt whatsoever that Bethany is happier in the Circle, but I think that at the end of half a decade in the Warden's she's probably a stronger person for it. I think that Warden Bethany is a lot mentally tougher than Circle Bethany, more active in the world, better able to defend herself and likely faster to defend others.

She's happier in the Circle than in the Wardens, there's absolutely no doubt of that. But I suspect that afterwards, Circle Bethany is going to be lost and confused while Warden Bethany is going to smile, shrug and keep going.

Er...she never actually turns against the Maker. All she does is make a statement about the Maker's wisdom. I rather got the impression that if the chantry system can be likened to Catholicism, then she was a Protestant.

Yep.  As someone who states earlier in a quest that for your WHOLE life you have protected her from the templars, you just let them take her???  No going down fighting? No promise that at least one of them will join you in death before they take your sister?  One of the worse scenes to me (and why warrior Hawke took her to deep roads).

They could have had you beat down and a voice over from Varric about how with the wealth your mother was able to buy your freedom, and you moved to hightown, etc.  Or you could have Killed them (not have Cullen there) and as you walk out the door there are like 20 more and Bethany stops you, etc.  Anything is better than say it, then walk away.  Some protector you were.

 Then it must be that Hawke is Martin Luther!!! ...only Hawke didn't post 95 Theses on the Church wall and rather unknowlingly had a good friend/rival of his blow it up.
