I've only been playing DA2 for a couple of hours - as a rogue - but have been unable to find a way to equip both a bow and daggers and easily switch between them.  Am I missing something or do you actually have to open your inventory in the middle of a fight?

yes you have to open your inventory.

it's faster switching back to bow as you just drag the bow onto your character image.

The reason for that lies in the mastery traits.

Basically, if you're a bow based character fighting in melee, your character goes into a series of spin-kicks and dagger attacks, dealing damage that seems to scale with the bow you use. The hits are smaller, but much faster, as is appropriate for a dual wielder.

Personally I didn't miss the weapon-swap after noticing this fact. Especially since an archery based character should be keeping distance whenever possible.

I kept using the inventory swap action because certain abilities would not count using bow and dagger whereas using dual wield you got the counters to apply and dagger skills were unlocked.

Mike Laidlaw in one of his interviews made it pretty clear that the ability choices had been designed to pretty much gimp a character that tried to have two different weapon specialties. Did not explain why, but apparently he doesn't like them. This would explain the lack of an easy switch weapons mechanism.

So basically they hate letting the player play his or her own bi way. So much for all of that "tolerance" thingy.

I don't understand, can you elaborate on what you mean by mastery traits?

Switching between bow and daggers takes (real) time because you have to open your inventory and change, but in-game it occurs instantly. I have never noticed any delay while swapping out weapons, even when in the middle of an attack.

The only character class in DA2 that can specialize in two different weapon types is the Rogue and they are certainly not gimped. I've found that no matter how many talent points you elect to put into archery or dual wield (or even none of the above), you can still kick ass with both bow and daggers as the situation arises.

Unzip/rar and place the folder in your Addins folder in your Program Files DA2 directory.

Congrats, now you can swap weapons with a push of a button on your hotbar!

I hate to be dense but how do you install this ? I went to add in folder and extracted the file; so that I end up with addins/module/{data,xatmos_wepswap.cif}/(in data)/xatmos_wepswap_module.erf
-
I tried copying both the .cif and .erf file to addins but when I look at abilities (p cmmand) i see no way to setup weapon swap.
