What game breaker did you encounter? Is it the one regarding Isibel's(sp?) friendship? Let me know so I can try to avoid the bug that broke your game...

Yes, it's the Isabela friendship buff bug.  As far as I know the only way to truly avoid it is to go for rivalry with Isabela since the rivalry buff isn't bugged.

But I don't want to do that, and I would have to go back and lose at least 20-30 hours of gameplay to go back to a point before I had got Isabela past 50% friendship.

It's also worth mentioning a similar bug occurs with Sebastian's friendship buff which reduces your damage resistance... eventually you will be 1 shotted by even the weakest enemies, especially if you play a mage like myself.  I did find it particularly annoying that I was dying in 1 maybe 2 hits max during the latter half of Act 2... and only realised that wasn't supposed to be happening when I looked at my stats page and saw -50% damage resistance!

Many are praising Brad's honesty and integrity. I agree with them.

Discuss.

EDIT: READ THE WHOLE REVIEW before posting. Don't just look at the score and fanboy flame it.

I don't know about the honesty and integrity part. I mean, he does claim that he spends more time looking at the loading screen than playing the game, lol. Just sayin'...

Ok thanks. I'll have to check on my Isabela and hope that she's not on the friendship side of things. I hardly use her so hopefully she's still netural. Sebastian is the DL content right? I don't have him and will not be purchasing the content.

What I don't understand is that some of these bugs can be noticed pretty eaisly by simply playing the game. How does one miss these bugs when going through Quality Assurance?

I just don't get it. It's like they produced the game and didn't bother to play it before releasing it, lol.

Thanks OPer - great review, I agree completely.

The score depends on the intensity of feeling and your own standards - he justified his score with his words. People are too used to the inflated scores of the gaming media, the mainstream of which are obviously in the pay of the publishers.

Thanks for linking that. That has to be the best Dragon Age II review I've read to date. A very fair score, too.

Dragon Age 2 isn't an awful game. It's just an awful RPG. It doesn't have the charm or appeal of Baldur's Gate, the writing of Fallout, or the combat of Dragon Age: Origins. It completely lacks anything that made Origins a good game. They changed what didn't need to be changed, and have tried forcing a more "hip" style of gameplay and story telling into a genre that wasn't built for it.

The "writing of Fallout"

The hell.... really?

Fallout has an awful story and is basically a giant field with similar looking caves. You can't even say it has more map variety than DA2.

He may mean the older FO's since he's talking about BG as well.

I totally agree with the OP.
DA 2 is worse than DAO in every single matter and also with a lot of bugs.

I also don't think the companions have more depth than in DAO. Not at all. I didn't care about one of the characters, because I don't know them truely. They were only talking to me in a case they
wanted me to do something for them. In DAO I could talk to all companions about their past and feelings without any purpose.

But what I hated more than that was the thin storyline and the recycled maps and the useless sidequests.

I love Bioware (or I think I still do), and DA:O/A. I hated DA 2 and agree with the reviewer. Even the unusually low score because I to would expect much more from bioware. i might have given it a 5/10 myself, but the things DA 2 did right were in the shadow of the giant hulking mass of what it did wrong.
