You can't. Everyone except for Anders and Sebastian will turn on you.
Does she die permanently?

More specifically, only Anders won't turn on you, because Sebastian you can't even take into the Fade in the first place.

For example, I took Fenris and Merril, but only Merrill turned on me. Maybe there is a random chance that it would have been Fenris instead of Merril.
Tempted by Desire Demon
Aveline, Isabela
Tempted by Pride Demon
Fenris, Merrill, Varric

LOL! Wrong.
Fenris was the only one who turned against me and he was my only rival.

I liked that people turned in and that it resulted in quests talking about what went wrong afterwards. I kind of wish there were more conflicts with companions that resulted in dialogue about it afterwards--which is what happens here.

You can take Sebastian into the Fade, I think. At least the guide says so.
I tried he won't go stating it isn't the place for man and thats what caused the fall of the Golden City or something along those lines.

If you can take him in you must need his friendship maxed, because I have never had him say anything other than he refuses to enter the fade, because that's where/how the Golden City was corrupted or something like that, then he was blacked out in the party selection screen.
Wouldn't be the first tiem the 'official' guide was wrong. Heck, you can usually count yourself lucky if the guide is just a little wrong rather than totally, potentially dangerously wrong.

Two of your three companions will always turn. If you have Fenris in your party, but not Merrill, he will betray you for the pride demon.

While it can be a little panic-inducing and while I'm not sure why being "killed" in the Fade didn't make Merrill tranquil (I'm not saying what happened violates the lore--I'm saying I'm confused and just might not understand the lore on this point), I thought this was pretty cool.
Because she isn't killed in her own mind/dream, if I understood it right. It's Feynriels dream so only he will suffer severe consequences . You and your group will just get kicked out of his dream.

Also you didn't use the murder knife.

I entered the Fade with Fenris, Merrill and Anders.
Only Merril turned on me.
If I had taken Isabela, Aveline and Anders, (or Fenris, Varric and Anders) I'm pretty sure only one of them would have turned on me.
Isabela/Aveline - susceptible to Desire Demon
Varric/Fenris/Merril - susceptible to Pride Demon.

That's right. Only the murder knife is allowed to deliver death in all forms to you companions.

However, since out of your 2 remaining companions (if Anders is the third), if they are both susceptible to the Pride Demon, then only one will turn on you.

It's not random. It's just a list who will betray you over others. For example, Merrill will always betray even if you bring Varric or Fenris.

I think Varric, being a dwarf is the only other that might have a chance at resistance, but I wasn't sure, so didn't chance it.

Right, because each demon only takes one. If you take Varric, Aveline, Anders, then Varric (pride) and Aveline (desire) betray you.

This guys got it. Each demon will only take one. The one that pretends to be the keeper who turns into that big demon will take Merill, if she's not with you it'll take Fenris, if he's not with you it'll take Varric.
The other demon that makes itself look like the father and you the mother and turns out to be the female demon will take Isabella, with she's not with you it'll take Aveline.
Of course if none of the people that one take are with you then it'll go straight to battle. But you can have conversations afterwards with them to gain more friendship points. Also if you use the sarcastic/joking line when Merrill turns on you, you won't lose any friendship points. And if you use the sarcastic/joking line when Isabella turns on you it'll will actually give you more friendship points. Plus then you can go to the conversation by finding them after it's all done and get more friendship points.
