Is XP divided? I noticed individual mobs do not give xp anymore (fluke?) but that encounters give you a amount of xp upon the last 'mob' dying.

Will I level up faster playing with 3/4 than with 4/4? I like to get the most of my characters, and after the first feel-good runthrough where I would switch up between hard-normal depending on how hard a fight was, I'm thinking I'd prefer to play with 3 instead of 4 characters.

So, is it divided? Does "lone hawk" gain more xp than hawk w/friends?

I don't believe that's the case. The way the xp works, if I remember correctly, is that the individual mobs are tallied together at the end of an encounter (so you are getting xp from all of them, you're just not seeing it immediately - you can see the, ah, impending xp on your xp bar during combat), and that the xp is the same regardless of how many are in the party.  (I'm not 100% on the party part)

I am not sure..

but considering your companions level whether they are in your party or not, I don't think combat XP is divided. Rogues do seem to get individual XP for traps and locks though.

Considering companions level even if they are not in your party, tells me there is no xp sharing. The game has balanced progression, designed for a full party. After fighting a few mobs solo, all I can say is they feel like huge huge health pool punching bags, as boring as any generic MMO... even wearing an xp gain ring for the entire game, I did notice any level increase. (best way to gain extra xp is from opening every chest and disarming every trap, using Varric :) )

I'm pretty sure all xp goes to all party members in equal amounts. All of your companions lag behind Hawke by a narrow margin but that's it.

The experience awards are static, it's not like Baldur's Gate or NWN where you could earn more by going solo (or fewer members).

I've tested it already. Dragon Age Origins was also like this, it awarded static experience as well, party size did not effect your character's experience awards.

What's the point anyway? Enemies scale to meet your level, so the ONLY thing you get out of higher levels are more abilities. Yay, how exciting :/

In DA:O, the one that struck the killing blow would often get a few extra points. And it wasn't simply due to rounding: with four party members, you might get more than three extra.

You would also sometimes get some odd amounts for what should be fixed tasks, like 51 instead of 50 for unlocking a chest. I've seen this in DA2 as well. I wonder if the algorithm actually adds some tiny random bit on purpose, perhaps to screw with people trying to figure out exactly how it works.

FWIW, I have noticed my "support" characters, Anders and Varric, too, to a certain extent, lagging behind the damage-dealers in level. Hawke will level up, then Isabela (I have her in a DPS build), Fenris, and Aveline, with Varric and Anders leveling a few encounters later. With 2 mages in the party (Hawke and Anders), about the only time Merrill is in the party is for her quests, so she levels slowest of all.

I've noticed the if Just the MC levels, then goes to the estate (once you have it)/galen's home and change your party, all the companions level up too

Sorry, didn't mean to ressurect this, Found it Via google and didn't check the age
