my only reasoning is that I like the look of light armors, or should I say Medium armors I guess, and would not mind using them instead.

No no no. As a warrior you are blessed with only having to put in points into two best stats in the game: STR and CON. Don't waste them on cunning.

Hope you like the look of the default weapon too cause that's all you would be able to equip. It just won't work for multiple reasons.

I really miss the old system, where yes there was some Rogue/Warrior overlap but I did not mind this, I've always loved making overlap kind of characters I guess, they might not be viable in a optimized kind of way but I still enjoy them, secondly it's sad to see that Loot is almost insignificant compared to DA:O there's not real excitement about it most of it is just junk or an ineffectual magic item.
I never did get why they changed up Dex and Cun stats either or changed the difference between blunts and axes compared to swords, which is really the biggest sin.
This is was simply not something they had to remove, which made it seem like a fun choice whether or not you wanted to use Axes or blunt weapons or swords.
