Because that lessens the Dragon Age brand. The point of Dragon Age is to tell many stories inside the Dragon Age world. Devoting two entire games to the same protagtonist would turn it from Dragon Age into The Adventures of Hawke and Company. Boring.
Finish his story with a good, well developed, interesting DLC (that has a lot of new, unique areas to explore) and be done with him.
New story in DA3. New setting. Go go go.

I'm sure he and the Warden will show up. But you most likely will play as a Seeker.

As both Hawke and The Warden have "dissapeared" and the world is going to need heroes to somehow resolve the mage situation, why not feature BOTH of them in DA3? Perhaps choose one of them as your playable character while the other becomes a party member, perhaps have them as the leaders of some sort of organization thats taking part in resolving the situation.

And if they don't let us play Hawke in DA3 I will not buy the game.Nobody Important wrote...
If they make us play as Hawke again I will never buy another Dragon Age game again.
Now we have quite a problem, don't we?

agree with you on the DLC (hoping for an expansion) Hate the way they ended his story.
however i did'nt mean play as Hawke i meant make an appearance or have some relevance in the plot

that would be really cool but the warden MUST be voiced, be weird if he was a mute again.espicelly after playing as hawke

Haha. We both know that isn't true [smilie]../../../../images/forum/emoticons/wink.png[/smilie]

Ah. I misunderstood then. In that case I would want Hawke to feature in DA3 as much as the Warden featured in DA2.
Mass Effect seems to have trained people to expect a returning protagonist. New protagonist for DA3, have Hawke be mentioned but never seen (to avoid continuity issues). Leave the trilogy nonsense to Mass Effect.

1 not everyone did DR.
2. ITS A ****ING GOD. Yeah try and balance that **** out.
Being said I'm sure it or some other super powerd being will be in game, though not as a party NPC or PC. More like Party is about to get its ass kicked and WAM here gomes OGB or Mysterious Stranger in for the save.
I still think the Warden, and Hawke will show up as Party NPC's Though honestly I would not mind playing as hawke again, or even a branching story with him and the Warden, sorta like MC and the Arbiter in Halo 2. Though if those two are in I hope we have some save import that works, with those closest to each showing up. Or an option of who to pick and with what romances, major outcomes in a list like feature sorta like ME:2 but bigger.
Still going down the road of us Being a Seeker with those two, or maybe it'll be a tri way game, but that will mean giving the Warden a voice, or least a list to pick from, and we already know how some of the "Purists" here will act.

I really hope that's not the case. Just like I really, really hope the DA3 won't be in Orlais. Or if it is then in an area that's overrun with Ferelden refugees, or something. Most Definitely Sane wrote...
As much as I like Hawke, I really have my hopes high for playing an Orlesian Seeker or a bard.
I don't think I can handle an entire game filled to the brim with the Orlesian accent without going insane.

I don't think Hawke's story is over, but I'm not sure if he/she will be our choice for DA3. I don't know if I'd mind either way. The character has sort of grown on me.

but i also doubt the game will be set in orlais.I imagine the third game will shed some light on the mystery surrounding flemeth after dragon age 2 did nothing of the sort.unless Bioware decide to make more than 3 games witch is also possible but...i dont know.
Playing an orlesian would wreck my head:pinched:. Too much of their accent get's annoying and it would be hard to take the character very seriously

Oh, but the Orlesian accents are so wonderful!
There will be at least a few Fereldans, don't worry.
Or maybe the protagonist can have a very, very slight Orlesian accent?

Common Human is soooo dull.
Witty female Hawke as companion would be awesome though.
