New protagonist. Return to the origins stories so we can create our own and it allows for increased replay ability of the game.

Circle/Tevinter Mage

i myself prefer a protagonist if they bring back multiple backgrounds instead of it made up for you and multiple classes im happy with a fixed race cause playing as a different race doesnt really change much except your hieght lol

I would LOVE to play as Hawke again!! He was funny, engaging and in my humble onion so much richer than my warden (whom I loved to bits too, don't get me wrong). I know a lot of people didn't like DA2 (I don't agree with them btw, but not going to be drawn in a discussion about that.) but not a lot of that negativity was aimed towards Hawke so I really see no reason to have him/her scrapped?? (especially since I feel his story has only just begun!!) In fact: my heart would break if I didn't know how it ended with him and Merrill fleeing Kirkwall from the Templars and dire bunnies.

Part of the whole idea of the Dragon Age franchise was to tell the story of Thedas in the Dragon Age through having a new protagonist in each game. Hopefully this one will at least get Mass Effect style background choice.

 I hope s/he plays a role, that differs depending on your choices in DA2.
His endings don't feel like endings to me.
I don't think he should be the Player Character and I don't think either s/he or the player character should outshine the other.

i personally want a side game continuing the adventures of Hawke, not necessarily Dragon Age proper games, more like the Chronicles of Hawke... yeah i liked Hawke more than I liked my Warden... and i have dead Wardens anyway

Hawke will only arrive in DA3 to say "Hi, how's it goin'?" to the main char of DA3. They'll talk about the weird feeling of deja vu they often get.

As both Hawke and The Warden have "dissapeared" and the world is going to need heroes to somehow resolve the mage situation, why not feature BOTH of them in DA3? Perhaps choose one of them as your playable character while the other becomes a party member, perhaps have them as the leaders of some sort of organization thats taking part in resolving the situation.

The whole "disappeared" thing reeks of Old Republic's Revan and the Exile. They are probably off fighting some "Other Evil" or dead.

I would love the chance to play either, but I would prefer to play Hawke, I felt closer to the character and enjoyed the relationships s/he made throughout the game.

I dont mind also but i wish if one of them will be the main char or not i wish they will be in the companions list.

I'd imagine Morrigan wouldn't be too pleased with Hawke helping Flemeth return to the land of the living, especially if The Warden killed her during the Fifth Blight.

After just beating the game finally (took a huge hiatus because of personal life) if they go the same route as a dedicated character like hawke instead of our warden in DA1 its going to be Leliana if they bring someone back from one of the other games. Otherwise it will be a fresh character

I don't know if anyone has suggested this yet, but I think it'd be super awesome if they had him/her as a cameo/NPC. They could have it so that when you import your previous save from DA2, the game reads what dialogue choices you made and the way your character looked, and used that information to customize him/her. It'd be pretty interesting to see your character from DA2 out of your hands and in this world interacting with you.

this is only a guess but I imagine since varic was in the trailer for the new dragon age that hawke will be a part of it as well

I find the Idea of Hawke as a NPC easier to accept. As the Hawke of DA2 is a character in Varric's Story.While i'd love to play as Fem Hawke again purely because of the VA.
