Tevinter magister would be awesome!

I would just enjoy companions that.. enjoy what they do. A mercenary who just lives for money and women (or men, just don't make it another Isabela), a mage who baths in his power, a rogue who actually encourages player to go break in some noble's mansions.
A cynical, egocentristic adventurers that enjoy free roaming and living. Characters without hundreds of skeletons in their cupboards.
And one clear psycho that collects things on streets and then counts them or something, for the laugh.

You have Anders, how much more psycho and unstable do you want ? And for evil only, there's Mother Petrice.

Balthamoss, your sig is awesome. I sat there and laughed out loud like a dummy all alone in my house over that line.

EDIT: Somebody needs to make an "I support Apostitutes" sig banner. Please. I lack the skillz or I would do it myself.

Thinking on it, a Tevinter magister actually seems the most plausible if we're ever going to get an evil companion. Given the state of things at the end of the game, they'd probably take a hell of an interest in how everything is going to shake out. That could lead into any number of alliances of convenience/necessity or even outright trying to manipulate Hawke or whoever the protagonist is.

As far as weighing in on the crazy apart from championing BG's best insane gnome, I could see someoone like, say... Ruck from Origins.

"They takes things of paper and metal! They takes the shinies and the words!"

I do like your ideas! psychos are always good! =D

The tervinter mage would be a great addition. One who wants to see the Imperium returned to its former glory?
Royalty perhaps?

Just a thought on how the variety if characters in the game isn't very wide. Characters like HK-47 and Xzar add more color to the gameworld by being evil and(or) unstable. In DA2 we have: Aveline - Lawful Good, Anders - Chaotic Good, Varric - Chaotic Neutral, Isabella - Chaotic Good, Merrill - Chaotic Good, Fenris - Chaotic Neutral, Dog - ...True Neutral. No evils!!

Okay, there are characters like that, they just aren't as interactable because they arent companions or characters more involved with the Protagonist. Characters like those make me feel its more worthwhile being evil and mean.

I just feel these kind of characters would be more fun to have a party comprised of than a bunch of do-gooders.

I somehow missed it the first time reading through this thread... but why on earth do people feel the need to try to cram characters in works of fiction into AD&D's wonky, silly alignment system?

No.

Also, trying to shoehorn characters into D&D alignments is a defilement of Bioware's writing.

Don't agree with those assessments.

Aveline is Lawful Good, yes. Anders is also probably Chaotic Good.

Varric is Neutral Good, Isabella is True Neutral, Fenris is unknown really. He doesn't have any agenda beyond contempt of mages and freeing himself (so all considered probably true neutral as well). Merrill is is Chaotic Good concerning her clan only. Bethany is Neutral Good and concerning DLC I am only suspecting that Sebastian is Lawful Good.

Despite the fact that they did that with, like, half of their own games?

I'll agree it might *seem* a bit restrictive, but It still seems like a go-to system for a lot of people. The trick is acknowledging exceptions to the archetype. Using BG2 for an example, Viconia was lawful (or neutral, I forget) evil, but you had the opportunity to soften her over time. And Korgan was straight chaotic evil, but among other things loved the hell out of Jan's stories and repeatedly tried to hit on Mazzy, who's on the complete opposite end of the spectrum.

D&D alignments are only restrictive if you suck at writing.

Petrice?  Yeah I guess so due to her methods. Which I totally agree with as far as sowing dissent and an end jusitying the means, that being getting rid of the Qunari.  If more people listened and acted as she did there might have been a different outcome.

Evil character is interesting, along Morrigan could sometimes cross the line into evil stupid. And she disapproved of a good action even if it had seflish/pragmatic motivations. ME1 managed fine without an evil character, although I do enjoy the alternative flavour.

I think, depending on how you play though, different members of your team could fill the 'evil' role. If you're playing as a pro-mage freedom Hawke then Fenris is your evil character. If you're playing a pro-templar control Hawke then Anders is your evil character. They're just not 'I kill puppies for the lulz' evil.
