Sorry, I tried searching around for this but didn't see any with answers...

I'm in Act 3, in a Fenris romance and he's at least 80% friendship with me. I gave him both gifts, did his sidequest in Act 2, and in Act 3 killed Danarius. But "Questioning Beliefs" for Fenris has never shown up! It's not in my journal, and if I go to his mansion he doesn't have a conversation with me. I haven't yet chosen between templars and mages. Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

I think the friend/rivalry system is a bit -ahem- borked. It took me a while to find out how the system worked. It doesn't help at all that I'm colorblind....and actually can't distinguish wherethe deepred end of the rivalry system begins. (numbers would have been nice).

I solved this for Merril's questioning belief quest in act three by actually taking a ruler and measuring the line. The line is 10 centimeters long. To get these quest, you have to have about 75% or maybe even 80% in friend or rivalry. This means that you'll need to have at least 2 centimers or 2.5 centimers left at either end of the scale to get these quests.

As you can tell, Merril's questioning beliefs never triggered for me either. Or it did - sort of. By that, I mean, the quest went into my journal, but sadly no quest icon - when visiting Merril's home.

Hi,

I started a new game the other day and had the same thing happen. The quest doesn't show at all and can't be accessed. I know that my rivalry is at 100% and all conditions are met but the quest doesn't trigger. I've even tried running it through the developer console and no joy. Anyone know anything about this?

I believe you have to not only have the companion at 100% either end, but also have given them their gift in Act 3 (Sword of Mercy for Fenris) to trigger their questioning beliefs. I've never had any problems when those are met.

I thought the same thing and so I played through most of act 3 and gave him the sword but no questioning beliefs is available. I've not had this problem before with Fenris either.

It's really annoying.

Someone else had this problem with a few companions. They had missed a talk in act 2 and I guess it stopped all progress with that companion. Not sure if that is the case here or not.

I'm pretty sure I haven't missed anything. I love my companion quests and chats and I'm all over them the second they appear. Also I've done a Fenris rivallry romance before and I can't remember anything really different from that playthrough.

I can cope without my cutscene but I don't want to get to the end of the game and have my poor Hawke left alone and unloved and there's no way of resolving the issue without that darn quest - and I really don't want to have to restart act 3 again to see if the same thing happens!!!!!!

Firstly SPOILERS BELOW

Ok, well for anyone else who gets this problem of Act 3 fenris questioning beliefs not appearing.

If it's a big deal to you (like me), I can't see anyway to get the quest active during act 3 and I've played through to the final straw coversations now and tried everything I can think of to get it running. So if you want to get a romance conclusion with Fenris you'll need to enable the developer console. Save your game before the final companion conversations at the gallows (after you've gone to the docks and got the ship scene.) Go to the approval debug, select Fenris, check committed, exit the console and then run through your conversation with him to get the romance conclusion. If you don't do this you'll get the standard fight well ending. I suppose this is better than nothing but you won't get the act 3 getting back together scene at all....ever...

Any other ideas/options/fixes would be welcome. I've got no idea why it's glitching now?

Spoilers...

When you did the danarius quest did you get the heart option and select it? What level was your rivalry/friendship at?

After the quest it should have popped. Mine always does. I only do friendship so can't help with rival path.

Thanks for replying FieryDove.

Yep, got the heart and the romance is recognised in the game both with banter and in the better served cold quest (Fenris ikidnapped) - so I can't see an issue there. I've also loaded up other character (didn't romance Fenris, friendship romance etc) and replayed Alone to have.....no Questioning beliefs appear....which is really odd seeing that it showed up in the original playthroughs and I can load the scene on other saves (I save everything.....it's a problem really)

I'm thinking of reinstalling the game to see if that fixes anything? It just seems to be the wierdest thing. I've always just had to have maxed approval (either one) and completed the Alone quest and then done Questioning Beliefs without any trouble . I'm pretty (appearance) mod heavy at the moment but I can't for the life of me think of any that would be messing with a quest appearing.
It's got me stumped!

Ah I bet that's it. Someone else posted in maybe the companion forum? I can't recall now, it was a mod, Once it was gone it all worked. I never saw what the mod was tho...odd.

I run heavily modded games also, but if I have a problem I remove the last mod added. I have backups if its a serious mod (not just cosmetic).

Hi, for others interested.  After much stuffing around, my problem was caused by a mod (thank the maker it wasn't one of mine!!!)  I couldn't tell originally 'cause I had the approval level maxed prior to going into Alone but after stripping my override (of all but my own mods - cause a girl has to know if she's broken everyone's Fenris romance!) lowering approval and then threatening to hand over Fenris to max out the rivalry again.  I got the questioning beliefs quest....Hooray!  Posted Image
Now I just have to replay Act 3 to get my Fenris fix.......Posted Image
When I'm in a slightly better mood, I'll go through all of the 400 (ok, it's not really that many... but it's lots and lots) of mods on my cut override file one by one and track down the offender, so if anyone else has this problem then they can see what was up here.

Special thanks to FieryDove for all her help and suggestions Posted Image

SPOILERS

Just a quick update to say.....I prematurely blamed my mods......very sorry to all those lovely mods that give me nice hair and pretty clothes!

The actual problem lies in having 100% rivalry before entering the Hanged Man during Alone.

From what I've seen today, the quest only triggers if you're not maxed out before the quest begins (although this didn't happen to my friendship non romance characters so only the romancing Fenris Hawkes were a problem).....which probably means that you shouldn't be able to annoy Fenris that much before Act 3 anyway but well .....I cheat!

So if anyone else has this problem the fix is:

Lower your approval to -80 (you can go to -70) but I hate having to do the 'get thee to Tevintar' dialogue option.
Then go to the Hanged man for the Alone quest. During the conversations you can pick up -10 approval for selecting the 'we can make a deal' choice and then after you've killed Danerius choose "Don't kill her" for another easy -10.

When you leave the Hanged Man you should get notification that Questioning Beliefs is updated. The quest should be in your journal and all's good from there.  Note that messing with the savegame to raise/lower approval won't fix the quest (that's the mistake I made earlier today and so concluded that the problem wasn't related to approval....very annoying).  You have to use the dialogues to get the quest to show.

Anyway that's my day done.....and I don't think I ever want to see the Alone quest cutscenes again!!!!!!

I don't think that is it. When I did try rival path I had Fenris mostly close to max in act1. That would break most rival game runs I would think. (I went back and reverted to an earlier save and decided to go friend but that requires lots of metagaming on pro-mage Hawke's).

Hair and armor/clothes mods should not bother anything like this. (That's what I use plus a few gameplay mods and a huge weapon mod).

Sometimes going back to an earlier save in the previous act fixes things. (Sometimes)

You don't need to select them all.

spoilers....
The one when you are recruiting Fenris is under an investigate option, I never select it nor the heart after hadrianna is dead before he leaves group. I always choose this doesn't mean we shouldn't look for your sister.
