She just has the one shard. She incorporates it into the mirror she builds, extrapolating its construction both from the shard itself and what lore she's been able to collect. Probably why she wasn't able to get it to work.

And who knows? Perhaps that's a good thing. :)

That's true. I'm guessing Morrigan wouldn't be too happy with Hawke or Merril because of what happened at Sundermount, after all.

Oh I wouldn't know that, Morrigan mentioned that there's really no conventional way to "kill" Flemeth as it is anyway in WH.

Wracking my brain here, but as I recall from the Dwarf Noble origin, that actually happens a few weeks AFTER the events in Dwarf Commoner. There's some offhand comment about dusters screwing up the Provings or something if you go to watch. So if the Dwarf Commoner is the Warden, then Duncan already has his recruit and has already left. Presumably he arrives later in the reality where the Dwarf Noble is the Warden, and misses the Commoner's actions.

OH!

See I never understood that. Sure the Mirror looked different in DA2 but I just assumed the mirror had been designed as a Tevinter relic as Duncan suggests and then later during the development of DA2 it was changed to an elven relic.

And then Witch Hunt came out and gave us a bunch of elven words and set up the mirror as elven for DA2.

So a change from a human looking (I believe the two guys on either side were human) to a twisty-viney-goldy mirror was a visual retcon.

But it's a completely different mirror with only a shard from the original.

Did not know that.

Huh, I was sure the time difference was greater than that. Either way, Duncan gets his recruit before the DN is sentenced and booted into the Deep Roads, it seems.

The Dwarven Commoner is dead from starvation, so it took place some time ago.

he still would've had to stay for the expedition into the Deep Roads. but maybe with the DC they took down more darkspawn and hightailed it outta there before the DN could catch up.

I wish the DN and DC were both Wardens at the same time, and the DN could've become King of Orzammar. He would've seen that casteless can be great fighters and reformed Orzammar without being such a ruthless (no beyond ruthless), heartless, bastard that Bhelen was.

But my DN put Bhelen on the throne because he wants Orzammar to change, even if he can't be the one to do it. He would've definitely been the best king Orzammar had.

That's only after you go BACK to Orzamar though, so yo uhad to go through the entire Ostagar part first. With travel time, plus time ot do everything, and however long you wer at Flemith's(They never really say how long that was) PLUS Lothering, that's a LEAST a couple months form the time you LEFT Orzamar, so that's a moot point

I'm pretty sure the Dwarf Commoner's dead during the Orzammar main quest and not during the Dwarf Noble origin.

neither have I. I'm fairly certain the proving master said that though.

I feel the return of noble Xanthos Aeducan is upon me!

He's my avatar. He looks like the cuddliest dwarf ever Image IPB. I don't even care that I give him casteless tattoos. He's a rebel.

Is anyone else concerned that there are at least TWO super power and ancient artifacts all within the same proximity to one another? That's what bothers ME.

I dunno. I think what would bother me is people able to cast fireballs and lightning bolts in open rebellion, giant horned headed guys planning a possible invasion, Dragons swooping, darkspawn spawning, and hangnails.  Ancient powerful relics?  Bah.  They're just par for the course.

nice.

Dwarf Noble and Human Noble origins are by far my favorites, for a few reasons:

1: They lose everything they were born into because of treachery. Everyone else gained something (freedom and a better life)
2: I hate the elf battle voices. They didn't feel right
3: Well, I can make a cuddly dwarf noble. He looks like a teddy bear.

I still don't get some things about Merrill's mirror. The one she has in Act 2 is definitely the corrupted one from the Brecilian Forest. However when the Warden, Finn and and Ariane went there to perform a ritual to track down a working eluvian in the Dragonbone Wastes it was still there, smashed to pieces as it were. Merrill and her clan were long gone to Kirkwall by that time. I seem to recall it was said that she took only one shard, so how she was able to reconstruct the whole mirror from it? She magically melted it with the usual glass or something? Can it even work with only one shard intact? I don't think it can. And it seems to me that Merrill had no faintest idea how to fix it or she wouldn't have stumbled in the dark for so many years trying to figure it out. Just a waste of time, mixed with a good deal of foolishness and pride.

One thing everyone keeps forgetting, is the size comparitively. The whole mirror form the ruins was huge, easilly 8 feet tall (assuming the elf characters are 5 foot-ish) and was muc hwider as well, I'd gues 3.5-4 feet. Merrill's mirror in her house in DA2 is TINY by comparison, only barely reachign the top of Hawke's head and that's with a stand. It's more liek a mirror you'd hang on a wall now. All that "extra mirror" was left behind in the uins for the warden, Finn and Ariane to find.

agreed, but she needs to have a Welsh accent.
and be really nervous.
and use blood magic.
and fear dire bunnies.
and be Merrill.

Mr. Gaider, if you're still reading this, PLEASE PLEASE for the love of the Holy Maker PLEASE bring Merrill back in more DA games

Lol, I have to say, I think it's interesting her accent changed DRASTICALLY between Origins and 2(Remember that the Keeper sent her with you back to the ruin), while almost every other Fereldin Elf has an American accent.

they all have welsh, but hers is a lot clearer to hear.

the new redesigned look of elves is a definite good thing, as is the Qunari. Elves and Qunari just seemed like humans with pointy ears. A fantasy style word filled with Spocks. In DA2, they are their own race.

which reminds me. I want to see an Ogre Disciple who believes in the Qun and has a love of cookies.

edit: on that note, I'm off to bed now. I'm starting to fall asleep on my keyboard, which means my comments will look like this...

Second'd.

Best companion with a load of potential to her for future stories. She can go in so many directions after that last companion quest.

Easy.  IT'S MAGIC!!!!!  Stop trying to make sense of it <LOL>.  Heck, who knows.  Maybe she cast "Mandelbrot's charm of the Fractal Set" upon a shard and it just...grew.
