Yeah, she's dumb, but that didn't mean it wouldn't work given that she was going back to the spirit in the last quest to 'finish it' and the keeper purposely sacrificed herself to ensure it wouldn't happen.

I don't think dumb people can craft a makeshift Eluvian from basic components after extrapolating a two thousand year old piece of ancient technology.

I watch booksmart people do dumb things all the time.  I also see not-booksmart people know when not to do something dumb all the time.

It's just about the definition of 'dumb'.  In this case: "mage-smart" vs. "waiting to be an abomination and not knowing it"

She makes it clear, repeatedly, that she knows there's a threat of possession. Yet, apparently, people want to believe the ACTUAL abomination when it claims that the demon planned to jump out of the mirror.

A couple things.

I. Abominations LIE. This abomination stabs Merrill if you let it! The demon probably told Marethari that story in order to get freed. Marethari was tricked. Why are you so eager to believe the abomination?

II. All demons want to do is enter the normal world. If the mirror could let it do that, what's the point of possessing Merrill?

The Witch Hunt one is another mirror. Which makes sense, as there must've been many of them originally.

You see, I would understand this, however, they go into detail about how sparce they are still and how the one they are going to find was in fact the one that came in contact with Merrill's tribe.

And yet Merril explains that there used to be a lot because they were used for traveling long distances. Something like that.

Merrill says to Marethari that she too was heartbroken over the loss of Mahariel

Here's a video link for anyone interested. She mentions it around 10:22

am I right in thinking that one of the reasons that maril wonts to fix the mirror is she hopes that it will in some way bring back her friends who she still morns over?

It's okay. We'll try not to let it get to the point where we need a Crisis on Infinite Earths to sort it all out.

And that's the nerdiest possible reference I could make at this juncture. ;)

Nerdy but awesome.

And yeah, I could really do without that kinda thing.  Makes my head hurt.

the demon is from the fade and as i understand the fade there is no solid matter it's all
just dreams and idea that only last as long than the being that crated them.

E.g. being (A) thinks of a cake and poof a cake appears then the being most likely a dreamer forgets about the cake and thinks of a tree. as a result the cake vanishes and is replaced by a tree.

2 the only things a demon know about are world are what they see in the dreams of mortals that’s why
everything is distorted and never looks quite right in the fade. so going of that snip-it of theory leads me to believe that a being in the fade has no solid form beyond what any given dreamer give it.  so a demon has no solid form to use in the real world so needs a
host.

or that’s what i think anyway

A good continuation of this would be in a dlc where she gets it to work and ms. morrigan walks through it and arrives in Kirkwall. how about them apples!

So the main villian in DA3 might be the Anti-Monitor?

Merrill isn't stupid. She's naive. There's a difference.

I still love her though. If my sig doesn't show you people how biased I am about Merrill, then I don't know what will

I can just see it now...

Hawke: How are you faring Merrill?
Merrill: Oh Hawke! I'm glad you're here! I finally got the Eluvian to work! See? See?
Hawke: (sarcastic option) I see my reflection. And the mice scampering off.

*Eluvian starts to glow as Morrigan, the Warden, and the OGB step through*

Morrigan: Well, well. What have we here?

*additional line if the Warden is the Amell mage*

Hawke: Cousin!
