Hey why not.
Are there any other Mass Effect references by the way?
Only thing I came across was two references to the term "Enemies everywhere!"

Hawke's "one less to worry about!"

And my current signature - "Do the words 'political maelstrom' mean anything to you?"

The patrons of the Hanged Man make all sorts of references that break the fourth wall.

The Talkative man, in particular.

Hmm..I've never noticed any of those. Is the 'political maelstrom' one in Act 3?

I like things like this. Remember the note in the Deep Roads? "The Mass has an effect. Why is a dwarf named Shepard?" (or something like this) Or the Ogre statue in one Mass Effect DLC?
It may hurt the immersion a little bit, but i like it.

Go take a drink at the bar at the Hanged Man, and you'll see another ME reference.

I'm not sure if that's so much a reference as "Hey guys I just came back from ME development and stole their animations!"

Aye. Talk to Seneschal Bran in Act 3.

As hard as that is. That guy generates enough oil to solve an energy crisis.

I like Bran.  Particularly in Act 3 - telling the Champion to bugger off because they'll cause trouble requires balls.

It's his job to grease the wheels of Kirkwall, no?

Either way, it made me laugh.  :)

This still cracks me up whenever I hear it. I found myself wishing Varric would say "scoped and dropped!"

I actually found that to be rather annoying. Kinda ruined my immersion for a few moments. Breaking the 4th wall while keeping immersion can be a tricky thing to do...

after being arrested he manages to escape and hides out on one of the farms outside of Kirkwall. while there he becomes obsessed with a dead shepherd's ghost. eventually he begins pretending to be a spectre himself, running around with a sheet over his head

Those little things always make me smile. Has to be subtle though, not like in Wow where you literally stumble across one reference after the other. 4th wall breaking isn't that bad, esp with the talkative man. You already saw Varric telling the story, so it kind of fits in. It's not like Jahiera or Xzar in BG with ' omnipotent autority figure' and ' stop touching me' respectevely.
