Oghren: "You were staring at me, you manskirt-wearing freak!"

I love playing mages, but the robes just look terrible. I ended up using the mercenary light armor all the way up to the champion mage armor just because I could not find a single mage garment that didn't look like my character was a crossdressing larper. There has to be a better way.

I didn't mind them. At least you didn't look like an abomination. Although there were times where I wished Hawke were a giant angry marshmellow.

Eh, to me most of the robes look far too plain on women. None of them say "bad ass mage" to me.
The Chantry robe is very nice, but you don't get that till act 3 for a ton of gold in the Black Emporium.
I just use the fake Champion set through modding.

I don't even like them on my femHawke to be honest. Who wears a skirt into battle? There are a couple that are not robe like though: Robes of the Notorious Pirate & Free Mage Robes are two that come to mind besides the Champion Robes and the Robes you start out with in Act 1.

I still can't believe I paid 10 bucks for an extra store. Then accidentally put the DLC on the wrong email...

I guess we can all agree that the variety of clothing is lacking.

I like the robes, but clearly we need more mage clothing to satisfy everyone.

As for them not looking badass enough, you just need to own the look with the right expression.

Like these two apostate sisters:

So what if they're wearing skirts? they'll still melt my face off! :wizard:

And where are the ****ty robes/any other types of armor? Before the feminists descend on me, I'm a woman, and I find it excessive that everyone has to be covered up to their throats.

There's few places to draw inspiration from, but I'd say Gandalf the Gray and White were pretty good. Too many robes were fairly neutral colors. At least in the first game you could become an Arcane Warrior and wear armor so you'd look good. Dragon Age II seemed to lack in the armor sets that Origins and Awakenings had (then again was only a mage so all the armor I couldn't wear I didn't see). There's just an epic feeling going into battle wearing the Juggernaut armor or the Armor of the Sentinel. Also, I'd recommend the DC Universe Online armor system where you can equip the best armor, but choose the style separately.

With regards to armour.. to not die would be somewhat of a good reason.
Though yes some revealing mage robes wouldn't be out of place. Unless it's cold in the Free Marches or something.

Only the Aussie version.

Duncan MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod, however... :D

There can be only one.

I like robes. Just make the robes cooler is all I say.

I don't put armor on my mage unless they are a Battlemage.

Wouldn't mind some armor on those robes. Fiona robes, for instance, sound lovely.

Could look at this from a logical view as well.

Kirkwall mages are locked up by Templars because Templars believe that mages are dangerous. So lets flow from there.

1) Circle mages would likely be forced to wear an official Kirkwall Circle Mage Uniform. So as to easily identify them.

2) This uniform would be comfortable, have many pockets for notes and spell components, and would look the same for all mages. Maybe pants for dudes and skirts for gals, or pants for both.

3) This uniform would have no armor, no defense, and would not be magically enhanced. The reasoning? Why would Templars, who are sworn to watch and kill mages should they become possessed, give dangerous mages armored and magically enhanced uniforms? They wouldn't. Likely some specialized light mage armors would exist for when/if mages were sent into battle, IE: Battle of Ostagar.

4) Bethany, an apostate, does not wear a mage robe. She wears what appears to be regular clothing with chainmail attached. This allows her to blend in with everyone else.

5) Mage Hawke does not do this, Mage Hawke runs around in magi-looking clothing wielding a staff and dropping AOE bombs all throughout Kirkwall. Not trying to hide well, mmh? Mage Hawke should either be wearing simple/armored/magically enhanced clothing to blend in; or some magically enhanced light armor.

I understand Bioware's point in trying to make every class different, but some attention to detail would be nice too.

i dont think wearing a robe makes you a mage.
and i dont think holding a "staff" that looks more like a polearm than an actual staff makes you a mage.

the whole robe = mage thing is a fantasy cliche. i sometimes wear a bathrobe around the house when its cold. do i gain magical powers? no lol

I liked the robes, at least in comparison to what we had in Origins. The designs could have used a little more variety though: the different models were variations on the basic circle design. It seemed odd that the magisters and circle mages wore the same outfits.

In my DA:O play through of a Mage, I fell in love with the Tevinter robe. It made my Mage look like a real bad ass. By any chance is their a version of that robe in DA2?

I plan to do a Mage playthrough and just wondering could you show me a picture of the armor you're describing?

The model is definitely there--or at least, the female versions are for the elven model. I'm not sure if it exists for males, or if there are any items that use that appearance. Presumably you'd have to mod a uti to specify that model variation, or play with item_variations.gda.
