How the **** do you kill anything early game? Their health regens way to fast my team cannot take them out fast enough. I can get them down to half but they just hide behind cover and regen. I guess I wasn't prepared how frustrating this would be.

For ME1: Biotics. Use them. Abuse them. Lift aimed just above a group of enemies' heads will float them all. Singularity maxed out will draw enemies on the other side of the wall even. Throw will hit geth hoppers no matter where they leap. Insanity is trivial when your Shepard's maxed out from level 50 and up. And rockets and Geth Colossus cannot hit you for all the world so long as you are strafing. Just make sure to hit snipers hard and fast; you cannot dodge them and they chunk out major damage.
Hope that helps

Warp is a... passable counter for Immunity. But it's best to never let your enemies activate it. Keep them stunned or floating when possible.

Well its helps for later in the game but I'm early game like strolling around with 2 party members on the Citadel and I can't even kill the 2 assassins on the way to Choras Den and its frustrating. I think the problem I'm having is the lack of Gear and skills to handle these guys.

I should mention this is a Clean playthrough with a new character so I'm level 5 and a Soldier because I haven't played Soldier.

The beginning will be rough. See what ammo mods you have available and get ready for battles of attrition. Try cheap tactics when possible, like repeatedly knocking down foes in close range. And don't forget your grenades.

Yeah, ME1 Insanity is only hard up to ~level 20 at which point your (and squadmate) powers are powerful enough to disable most enemies permanently. After that Insanity is only tedious - it will take a long time to kill enemies (their immunity is a pain).

If you're only interested in the achievement - it's better to import a high level character. With maxed skills and spectre gear Insanity is a joke.

I wish I would have done this.  I decided to kill around five birds with one stone (Insanity achievement plus Engineer power achievements, having never played an Engineer).  It was a long and arduous journey, and one I shall never repeat.

It's quite hilarious how weak you are in the beginning of ME1. I'm doing a playthrough now to shape a new Shepard for ME2. I'm only playing on normal (adept), but the rocket drones are very annoying. I focused on biotics so far so I can hardly hurt them (can barely even hit them because of accuracy and recoil issues). Can't hurt them with Lift, Throw or Singularity. They can kill me in one shot even if I have Barrier up.

I tried getting myself to play through the game once on insanity. I didn't get far. I had Immunity on that run so I had no problem surviving, but I just couldn't handle spending so much time killing things.

Going back to ME1 was very educational for me. I can't believe how much they improved the combat system. I miss modding weapons and armor, but still.

Seconded. It feels a lot less agile.

lol , same here.

I've only played on spare time, but i had forgotten the game play of ME1. I keep looking for thermal clips after kills and wondering why none were dropping. Also i keep twitching my reload key. Combat is easier than i remember though. Edit: Let me rephrase that, Sometime combat is easier . Other time its worst than i remembered, good grief.

ME1 made me appreciate ME2 combat , but lament its role play aspect.

I get the whole tedious as it takes a bit of time to kill an enemy and my squad isn't much of help because their AI isn't very good. I'm not going to do a 100% playthrough just because it would take too long. I'm aiming for 24-35 hours hopefully I can do it. I also just bought all the ME2 DLC (waiting on the arrival) so setting up for that.

It truly is difficult. You need to play tactically and strategically and focus down enemies. It will take a while and there are some extremely difficult parts, but if you persevere you'll get through it.

Yeah, attempting ME1 on Insanity mode on a clean playthrough is extremely difficult. My buddy did it and said it required "brass balls." ;)

If you're still up for more advice, chokepoints helped herd the enemies into a more manageable mess. Much of side missions usually involve tunnels so it was just a matter of letting your opponents come to you. Taking cover by entrances & holding ground there reduced both exposure and the trouble of hunting out wanderers.
A quick way to rack up points can be done by killing thresher maws on foot. Acid blasts, like rockets, can be dodged just by moving sideways.
....this advice went longer than intended.

Yes still looking for advice! Ive actually been trying to do this it has been working. I'm trying to get Liara and having some trouble with Armature and the Geth that come with it. Squad dies to quick and I'm left to fend of the lot of them!

ya, that area right outside the ruins is a pain in the butt on higher difficulties.  damn snipers will take your head off when you poke out to put pressure on the armature.

i usually only play me1 on hardcore now.  i did an insanity run a while back, and it was just a lot of "head meet desk" type frustrations.  but, i've found that having a good mix of biotics and tech abilities is the key to anything over veteran level.

Yeah, that area has me swearing. I duck behind the framing to the left and stay back there until I kill the froggers. Then I totally cheat and kill the armature from between gaps in teh framing. Then I send out my squaddies to draw fire while I pop in and out of cover until I get a bead on the snipers and take em down.

So should I head left or go straight for the high ground?

If you're having trouble just outside the tunnels to that mine, you can try to bullrun the snipers and whack them down. Just be sure to take the hoppers out first and then I think you'll be able to outrun the sniper's sights long enough to get up close and knock them off their feet. Just keep moving and keep doing it until your teammates finish them off and then you can kill the Armature at your leisure.

investing in toxic/polonium rounds will help negate the immunity spam. put them on your entire squad and you'll have a much easier time.

I found that having one squaddy with fire ammo and the other with poison ammo to be very handy, while I swapped ammo off between shredder and tungsten. The squad gets different ammo for two reasons, one it stops any regin no matter who is doing it, because it covers both bases and the other reason is it lets me know who is shooting into the wall or more typically my back by what color flashes are hitting, red for one green the other.

Sorry, a soldier early isn't really good, but later you will be unkillable, but getting there will be the "fun" part. The two things you will need to pump are your primary weapon and skills to get immunity. Just about everything else is all as you feel like it for soldier, with the exception of armor, but once you max weapon and immunity you will be one tough mf.

That particular fight is one of the worst early on. I'd suggest doing a few citadel side quests to level up a bit more. It is also possible to completely skip it by talking to Barla Von and going in through the Wrex route, rather than the Garrus route.

Alright so I finally beat Insanity a few days ago. I had some growing pains early game mainly the Science facility, Mine shaft with the Husks. That was a bit tough. Skipped the Biotics that hijacked the freighter because they spamed throw and I literally could not do anything. Did a bunch of side missions and once I was able to max several skills Insanity was a breeze. Having Liara completely incapacitate enemies was great. It was also rewarding buying Cols X for me and my squad along with the Savant Amp and omni tool. I forgot how OP the Biotics are in Mass Effect.

When it comes to fighting biotics, you need to mod up your armor appropriately - [combat] exoskeletons and shock absorbers will do the trick nicely.
