Yes they are beyond ugly. They elves look deformed. Not better. Poor Zevran and I've never even romanced him in DO:A. He did not deserve this bad Anime / Avatar / Wow garbage look....this WAS the race that was thought beautiful???!!!!!....now with only about 4 exceptions they look like poorly thought out space aliens. Or wow runaways....Very poorly done BIOWARE.
What are the differences between DAO elves & DA 2 elves?

I don't care if the elves is humans with pointy ears or more alien. The 2 reason i hated the elves in DA II is this.
1 . It's too obvious from where BioWare stole the design. I do not mind that they draw inspiration from others work, not at all in fact. But why Avatar? Why did they choose a movie every single human being on the earth has seen and has an opinion on.
2 . They aren't attractive. But they are supposed to be right? They could have been alien and still attractive, like the Asari in Mass Effect.

DA2 elves are superior in every way. They are exotic, attractive, and the Dalish have Irish/Welsh accents.
lol at you all comparing DAO elves to LOTR. There wasn't a particularly attractive elf in DAO at all, their faces were too narrow, and they were about four and a half feet tall. LOTR elves are "attractive", as they only cast attractive actors, and they're about 6 feet tall. It's awesome that DA2 took care of the obnoxious height issue and made them relatively the same height, at least.

One of my DAO play throughs was with a Dalish elf and I was sympathetic to their oppression by
humans.
So I used my save file back story from that play through with DA2,now you would think meeting with any
dalish after they were given land back at the end of DAO they wouldn't be out right hostile to me upon
meeting them for the first time in DA2.
After my first play through of DA2 and with the continued hostility towards me I now despise the dalish.

What annoys me the most about the elves is we have proof that the new look -can- work well with Merrill & Fenris as examples. But the rest of the elves you interact with are just plain hideous. Cadaverous cheekbones (Orana) or no jaw bone at all (Zevran) all the way to very low polygon count scene filler levels just bring the whole thing to an EW inspiring level.
And yes I do believe every single one of them has green freaking eyes whats up with that? I love my blues and purples.
