To be by your side, I would willingly storm the Black City itself. Never doubt it

"I was foolish. This could have been so much easier, yet I...cannot regret what was between us. I will always remember you...my love."

And with the climax from the main theme playing right after that...were I a crying man, I'd have been bawling at that point, probably.

Seriously, that > everything else in either game. Although I am fond of Merrill's "*giggle* The Champion of Kirkwall going into battle naked...why can't I ever have that dream?".

You left the part of "another time, another place". And somehow that is the leaving through the eluvian thing. ;)

I disagree. The dialogue in Dragon Age Origins is much more romantic and Shakespearean...less realistic and more "how many memorable things can I say in this time frame". At the same time, it is also extremely unoriginal in my perspective. It lacked any true personality, and it didn't help that your character couldn't even talk.

Listen to Hawke in that battle speech at the end. He is clearly afraid, but at the at the same time he embraces death and willingly goes into battle. It's short, sweet, and so true to the character. No need for a "For Frodo!" or Braveheart line.

Huh did you really listen to the battle speech? The cheesiest thing is when Hawke tells the non party members what they should do. Fenris, stay close and jump in whenever needed. Aveline, help out if you see an opening. Isabella, strike from the shadows and cause chaos. Really? Hawke tells them their role which they should know by now. That's like when I go to a raid for the one millionst time as a healer and someone tells me. Alex, you heal. Really? I thought I am gonna tank with my healer.

This about the situation their in, Hawke is their leader, and he's there to make sure everyone better listen to him, no matter how many times he has to repeat himself.

I actually felt that the speeches themselves were pretty damn good (though no speech will ever top Morrigan's friendly goodbye speech for me). What was missing for me was some good background music. The background music played a big part in making the DA:O speeches feel more emotional to me. The lack of any background music (and if there was any I could barely hear it) is what I really missed in the DA2 speeches.
That being said... getting a kiss with my LI at the end pretty much beats anything else. :kissing:

Yeah, that was hot. I try not to factor Fenris into my judgment of anything because his hotness impedes my ability to judge fairly.

Rivalmance Fenris: Reduces my brain to a pile of dumb giggly mush.

Agreed. I can't even get mad at him when he argues with my Hawke because it's just SO HOT. I just sit there and squee and then cheer because I got rivalry points for annoying him lol

DA2 had the bittersweet "you didn't really win" feel to it that i kinda liked. Having the random soldiers cheering you into battle as you and your party charged into a flaming Denerim in DA:O was a whole lot of Epic, I'm not gonna lie

To be honest though, while I definitely liked DAO, it was always somewhat empty in a weird way. Even though it had loads more RPG to it than ME and ME2 for instance, Mass Effects both had something akin to the best finales in videogame history. The musics, the scripted scenes and events, the character interaction. All of it was just sublime. Neither DAO nor DA2 had that feeling in my opinion. Though I must say the Arishok ordeal barring the incredibly dubious duel, was damned good too.

I thought the romances were very well done in DA2, but I did feel that there were more over-the-top and cliche lines in DA2 than in Origins. When Anders said: "For three years I have been lying awake every night, aching for you," I pretty much gagged. If my RL boyfriend said something like that to me...blech. I know I should be flattered, but, blech!!

And then my femHawke has the option of saying back: "I want you right here, until the day we die." Ughhhhhh.

Agreed, nothing comes close to seeing Shepard standing over the coffins of your fallen commrades at the end of ME2. So much more touching and real than some huge boss fight followed by jubilent scenes(although I thought the final battle in DA2 was pretty epic!).

First time I realised I actually cared about characters in a video game to the same level as a film at the end of ME2, brilliantly done!B)

And that line is not full of cliches, is it?

No, it is not. It reflects issues regarding politics, faith, oppression, war, abuse and misguided idealism, not just "true wuv".

What I see there is the typical BS of "others are guilty, I´m a poor victim¨.

And with a Hawke who romanced him and only kept him alive out of a desire to see him do penance in the final battle/inability to murder someone she loved despite thinking he really deserved it-- it was seriously annoying. Did the writers not expect that someone would keep him alive for reasons other than the romance and agreement? I wanted an "Anders you lunatic just be a good healbot, help me save the mages and then run off alone because I don't want you anymore" option not just three different ways of saying I love you and hearing him spout off more rationalizations I don't agree with. <_<

I know any character who moves in with someone who spouts off dialogue as romantic as "I'd drown us in blood to keep you safe" and lets herself be emotionally blackmailed into helping him blow up the Chantry probably has a few issues herself. Still. Give our Hawkes credit for having some standards.

Well, the only goodbye that really got me was my LI's goodbye, whereas most of the companions' goodbye in DAO got a little slice of my heart.

As much as I loved the Fenris face sucking, Alistair's "goodbye" kiss was still the one that really got me worked over and sent me reeling.

oh god and the achievement that popped up afterwards, THAT just made it ten times worse. "Congratulations, you *commanded* your partner to kill the archdemon!"

I DID NO SUCH THING D:
yeah....it still gets me worked up.

Promise me you won't die. I can't bear the thought of living without you.

Also, Zevran's dialog at the gates was bugged to hell :(  At least the DA2 ones seem to be triggering properly for the most part!

I love both games, tbh.

That Fenris line always gets to me. And that kiss was utterly amazing. Nothing beats introducing Fenris to Hawke's mansion's wall though. *Fans self*

Nothing like epic lines from a Bard. The reason there is no Bard in DA2 is probably they're no longer capable of writing one, hmm?

Yes. That one.

But looking at the bigger picture, the speech moments in DAO were better played than those in DA2.  In my opinion, that was due to the atmosphere. Or it's lack of in DA2. They felt... less epic because of it.
