Hello everyone! So I was doing Forbidden Knowledge in  Act 2. You know, when you have to destroy those evil tomes. I destroyed every tome (Viscount's keep, Chantry, Sundermount, Bone Pitt, Wounded Coast) and I still can't enter to the cave for the last one in Darktown. I then read that if u read one the tomes it gets bugged and u can't complete it. Well, I read the first one in the chantry. Is it a bug, or is it supposed to be that way? If it's supposed to be that way, then I guess I'm screwed....

If you read any of them you can't finish the quest. Basically it goes read them for the bonus, take them to sell or destroy them and fight the demon.

I'm pretty sure it's working as intended, but it's rather dumb since you can read the last book in darktown anyway and still fight the boss.

you have have to destroy all but the last one to complete it.

then you can read the last one to finish the quest and get the bonus attributes. or destroy it..whatever

but if you're going to read one for the bonus points you have to wait till the last one or it's not able to be completed.

love rushed games yah? there's several quests that are stupid bugged.

Not true. I think you are allowed to miss one. I read the first one in the chantry and still fought Hybris (The ancient pride demon) in darktown. Which one you miss depends on where you look I suppose.

Hybris is the end boss of an entirely different sidequest. The end boss of Forbidden Knowledge is a desire demon named Xebenkeck.

So let me see if I got this right ....
Book 1 = destroy/take
Book 2 - destroy/take
book 3 = destroy/take
book 4 - destroy/take
book 5 = read?
book 6 = Boss fight?

I want to make sure I do it right on my 3rd play through ... This glitch is annoying .... Uhg!

No. You cannot take them. The quest will ONLY complete if you destroy all of them, except for the Fell Grimoire, which you may read.

Doesnt seem bugged to me. The quest is, "Destroy all of Tarohne's tomes" so if you read/take any tome before the last, you dont destroy them and you cant finish the quest to destroy them all.

Not quite. If you read one, it gets destroyed after u read it, so technically, u destroyed it.

... which doesn't really change the point that, in all likelihood, this quest is behaving exactly as it should. If you want to get the final book and fight there's no naughty readings.

Yes, but it still kinda sucks, that you don't know that beforehand and you have to admit that it is kind of silly, that you can actually read the last book and still finish the quest...

No, it's a bug. There's no justification for leaving it in the quest log whatsoever. If you fail a quest, it should be removed. So one way or another, something went wrong somewhere.

Not to mention that it doesn't really makes sense that if you read the first book you still can destroy all the others except for the last one. Why doesn't it simply say that you failed the quest or that it's done? Doesn't make sense at all.

Not leaving the quest log is probably a bug but the idea that you don't get the last fight fight with the demon if you give in to temptation and read them or sell them is probably working as intended.

If you read the text, it will say it will pass its knowledge onto you and in exchange you leave it alone.  So, no you do not destroy it if you read it.

Only one you may read without causing the quest to be incompletable is the last one.

Good to know. I wasn't able to complete the quest last time so I will be more careful this time through. Thanks.
