The amount of gold that appears on the corpse is determined upon looting. Even if you decide to not take the gold, that amount will never change. You can test that easily by checking out the loot with/without RoF gear, then taking off/putting on RoF gear and checking again.

Royeaux One and Two is a weapon that drops off an Amaranthine traitor during the quest The Conspirators.

Just from memory, the Shadow Warrior at the top of Sundermount drops the Arm of Adruil 100% of the time.

Where did you read that Arcane Horrors drop a rare item 10% of the time? If you wanted to manipulate enemies for drops, that would take an extraordinary amount of time. By maximizing gold with RoFs, you'll be able to afford all the top end stuff by the end of the game - not to mention if you have the extra DLCs which have a bunch of extra gold themselves.

The rare item you would get would likely not sell for the extra 2g+ you'd get by looting the Arcane Horror with max RoF gear for Act 1.

SuicidalBaby was working on a comprehensive Bestiary, but I don't think it included item drops. He was the only one to my knowledge that put extensive time into testing what dropped what items.

So, thanks for clearing up all that for me! The reason I want rares is A. to kick major ass; and B. as you guessed, to sell it and earn more cash, money, bling, dough, and of course bread -- if not for equipment then for stat and ability potions.

I could swear I read a post wherein it was said that AHW drops a rare 10% of the time, but I could be wrong -- haven't seen fit to test it.

Also, just checked: Shadow Warrior atop Sundermount (that is, the one fought during "A Long Way Home") dropped Ironwood Warblade.

Rares will almost never compete with the DLC or unique items, and that's probably even more true as more DLCs have come out. They are really only a source of gold.

There are some modifiers that are rare and can only be found on limited items - +electricity damage is one that comes to mind. These could be useful in an early game build or something. But overall they are only useful as vendor trash.

What you probably read was that ARW, or Ancient Rock Wraith, drops a rare 10% of the time. There's also a chance he drops about 6 or 8g, I can't remember. Is he worth farming until you get a random rare? Furthermore, is he worth farming until you get a random rare that is actually worth wearing? I think those drops are "nice", but they are not needed for optimizing.

The only times I've found it worthwhile to reset for gold was for big treasure caches. The best example are the three chests in Castillion's hideout during No Rest for the Wicked. Each one has a chance to hold 15g each. By Act 3, you can have over 100% gold find, and each one will net you 30+g. That's a possible difference of 100g. I resetted a bunch of times to get a maximum amount of gold from those chests.

Note that the gear or items found from chests or other objects are spawned as soon as you zone into the map for the first time. Loot that is dropped by enemies is spawned when they are defeated.

Lastly, I finally found the stupid dagger and according to the wiki it's a rare drop.

It's particularly good for when you get it if you don't have any DLC weapons, so that might be worth resetting until you get it.

The wiki is wrong. The dagger always drops from Shadow Warrior on top of Sundermount (Act 1).

That's what I thought. But Gedain said he killed the Shadow Warrior and he dropped something else. Oh well.

Yeaha, at this point I must have reset around 15 times or so in my attempts to get it. No dice. It's really frustrating -- mostly because I feel like it might be a bug. I get a random item (Dalish Dagger/Belt/etc.), of which I made note in the wiki. But I'm increasingly feeling like that might be in addition to the Arm, and not instead of it. I also tried leveling, because I read that drops are scaled to one's level. Still no dice.

So, any further thoughts? I'd really rather not start over again...

It's a stupid question, but it's definitely the Shadow Warrior at the top of the mountain after you run into the magical barrier, right? If so, the only explanation for me is it must be a bug. Before you said something, I would have bet money that no unique items are dropped at less than 100% frequency.

To answer your question: yes, I'm talking about the Shadow Warrior fought alongside the Arcane Horror atop Sundermount -- just after the magical barrier, as you say.

A ha!... nope that's not the right one. Continue up the mountain. There is a cave that you can't enter because of a magic barrier - it only opens in Act 3. Try to enter it and you'll cause an encounter with a Shadow Warrior who will drop the dagger.

I can't vouch and say it is a thriving community now, because I honestly haven't posted in months. But it was quite dead after only 3 or 4 months after the game's release. This just happened to be a subscribed thread so I got an email when someone replied and felt like helping.
