Much respect to the man, the myth, the legend, AKOdin for testing Rune of Fortune's capabilities. (see faq below)

I have not hit a cap after applying 10 RoFs to my active party. RoF's do NOT apply if they are on companions NOT in your active party. Finally, all RoF's are not created equal. The RoF's on companion armor generate roughly +10% each after rounding.

Let's get started.

Talk to both groups hiring you in the Gallows courtyard.
Take the Merchant's bribe.
Complete Meeran's quest.
7.6.24g
Hightown - Robes by Jean Luc - buy backpack
Black Emporium - Buy RoF & Design
Lowtown - Buy backpack, Varric's Armor upgrade - Warning: Do NOT buy Amulet of Influence
Hangman - Varric's lead in to Anders
Gamlen's House - gear up - get Amell Family Estate quest
Hightown - Sandal - RoF in Varric's Armor (10% in ACTIVE companion armor)
Darktown - start Anders quest & go in to family estate & complete Amell Family Estate quest (triggers Hubert's Bone Pit letter)
Gamlen's House - read Bone Pit letter
Hightown - Hubert - Obtain Bone Pit quest.
Bone Pit - 1st Dragon fight - Refined Lyrium #1
Sundermount - Long Way Home - Silverite #1 - Complete Quest (This triggers Javaris)
Go back to town then head back to Sundermount - Ambush with Javaris triggers - get quest, which unlocks Wounded Coast
Wounded Coast - Blackpowder Promise - Tal-Vashoth Cave - Officer's Room - *2 traps* - Silverite #2
Down the stairs from Officer's Room - Raw Lyrium #2 - Leave
Black Emporium - Buy 3 slot Lady Rosamund's Bulwark (5.2.31g) or use 2 slot Lion of Orlais(free dlc) (+3.75% per shield slot)

Where are they placed and on who? Easiest way to make sure there isnt a bug at play is to save before a checking a coin source, strip all coin increasing sources to get a base value, then reload and compare the value with all of your stuff active. Some coin drops are just small.

Another item I haven't seen mentioned in this thread is the Gem of Keroshek, you get it if you take it from Characde in Act 3.

Amulet
+44 Attack
Enemies drop more coin

Ahhh... I was nice, and thus did not get it. If you have it, could you please test it to see how much it increases drops by?

There seem to be a few quests in Act 1 that have big chest drops. For example the quest where you reclaim your family's estate. The chest at the end has something like 10 gold in it.

Has anyone noticed any other ones?

Ok I'm just going to list Chests in act 1 as I go that I notice have a decent amount of gold in it. Keep in mind, I don't know what the base number is for these chests because I have had 1 or more runes of fortune when I looted them. Just make sure you're set with your runes of Fortune before completing these quests.

Act 1:
1. Birthright: had 10+ gold in the final chest.
2. Fenris's Starter Quest: One of the chests had 2+ gold in it.
3. Isabella's starter Quest: Hayder's body has 2+ gold on it.
4. Wayward Son: Danzig (mage in darktown) drops 2+ gold.
5. Act of Mercy: Decimus drops 2+ gold.
6. Ancient Rock Wraith: About 22 gold total in the 4 chests.

Robe of the Notorious Pirate is 5% (4.955 to be exact) remember to calculate the drop increase towards base not the value already increased by other items

I belive we can safely assume that +coin % depands on what socket its for and doesnt depand on item quality.

so hint for starting act 2 : if you have aveline or if you are mage go to wounded coast and do http://dragonage.wik...s_on_the_Cliffs

@Jman- I amassed about 133g on a hard Act 1 run. This was with the Prince DLC- I think that adds 3-4 gold in rewards.

@Stardusk- There is an easy way to test. Go test, and you won't have to think- you would KNOW.

@Dutch- Glad you are finding it useful!

@Jman(mk II)- Some chest drops are fixed. I don't know how to tell in advance, so your idea is a good one. It would be nice to pin down some any drops that are always really high.

So it seems that the biggest drops I found were from the Birthright Quest and the chests you get at the very end of Act 1 after killing boss. I did Birthright early with just 1 rune of fortune on Varric, so someone should check the value of the chest with more ROF.

What Surprised me was that neither of the two mature dragons in Act 1 dropped any decent amount of gold. Just a handful of silver.

One suggestion I would make before going into the deep roads. Buy 1 or 2 runes of fortune. There might be a good item that drops with a rune slot and sandal can add it for you.

AKOdin, I was so eager to play and warrior like after all this time since DAO to even have considered using the RoF instead of offensive runes, so you and Suicidal indeed have my gratitude for pointing me there.
Tbh, reading this made me realise how much I hated the thought of having to deal with the dwarven loan agency again in act 2. ;)

Jman, do you mean before you enter the thaig or after you "saved" him back at the new camp?

Jman, do you mean before you enter the thaig or after you "saved" him back at the new camp?

After you "rescue" Sandal, and find the Primeval Thaig there is an opportunity to sell stuff and enchant. There were no rogue armors to enchant as far as I could find, but there may have been a warrior or mage item. Someone will have to check.

On a side note, I'm partly through act 2 now and I'm noticing a distinct lack of big gold chests/drops. It figures that now after getting all these companion rune slots in act 2, the money dries up! Maybe I'm just not hitting the right quests.

@Jman- some of the drops have a huuuuge level of randomness to them. When I was going for my "no injury" run, I killed a monster spider and got 4 gold and some enchanted item. But, some team member went down. Reload, kill spider with no injury.

Spider dropped only 17 silver. Pissed me off.

Anyway, I'll do the birthright quest with no RoF's at least to see what happens.

Do you guys think difficulty plays any part in all this? All my tests were done on Hard mode for what it's worth.

No idea. Will be easy to test on the birthright quest- Just save beforehand and adjust the difficulty for each reload.

Confirmed that the drop from the Birthright Chest is fixed at a high amount on NM. W/o RoF or items, 9.17s. With single RoF (Varric), over 10g.

Given that the Birthright quest is a prerequisite to the Bone Pit (and hence any RoF crafting), there isn't any reason to delay going there after installing the RoF that you can buy from the Black Emporium in a companion's armor. If you really wanted to max it out, you could wait until you had String of Pearls from Fenris' recruitment quest, I suppose.

Because you seem wonderfully informed AKOdin and SuicidialBaby, do either of you know if items with random properties in shops can have the Enemies drop better equipment property?

Alas, I do not know either way. I haven't investigated the vendor mechanics much. I don't recall ever seeing either the +coin or +equip properties on random loot though.

Hopefully someone else has a more concrete answer.

I haven't seen those properties on randomly generated vendor items either unfortunately :(

Oh well, thank you for bothering to answer me though, that's nice of you :)

And congratulations on the sticky SuicidialBaby!
