Hello i am a little confused weather  i should buy the Atari platinum edition
download,Neverwinter Nights 2,or the steam one, atari is erm 19.99 $ USD and steam 9.99 € Euro. The thing is,i don't care wich one is cheaper, and
version, they're both Platinum edition ,the game NWN 2 and the 2
expansion packs.I really need to know if the servers are separate or
not.Weather i can connect to the original obsidian..erm gamespy servers
whoever hosts them, from Steam version, and if i can join the steam
servers from the original version. That of cource if they are split and
not same servers/hosting.
Can anyone enlighten me please?also i will be wanting a very populated and good PW server :D with PVP too.like DEX 2 if it's still online i read good stuff bout them dungeon eternal x for nwn2
Sorry for any mistakes made i just woke up heh
answer here or mail to thom_lm@yahoo.com if you can, want and have time....
Thank you for your time

After you get the game, everything is the same.

DEX2 is still on-line. In fact, the person running it is one of the pillars of the NWN2 community in terms of improvements and programming.

Steam at least gives you everything already patched completely... not sure about what you get from Atari. Steam also has unlimited downloads of your game(s).

well atari D2D i take it it's erm direct2download ?and its 19.99 $USD,and if u choose an option to re-download it in case u loose it it costs more,20 and something dollars...23 dont remember...i wont need that option anyway since i'll probably backup on a dvd,and 2 usb sticks ..erm drives :D btw nice pic it's Al Bundy?from the Bundy Familly?D:D:D good actor he played in some good movies too.
Edit: So you're saying with the steam version i can connect to the original servers?gamespy?because if they're separate i wont buy from steam ill buy the atari one ... so it's same hosting on both Atari and Steam versions?NWN2 platinum edition both of them.
And how will it work with steam?even if it does connect to the gamespy servers don't i need to make id?or the steam id will be used? :| omg this is so confusing ....

last edit: "After you get the game, everything is the same." u sure mate?the servers  i mean?hmm than i guess i'll buy the steam one ..i dont know hmm...tough i hate beeing linked to steam and not buying from the original source

Whether you can connect to a server or not isn't based on where you got the game from. It's based on whether or not you have the required expansions and having the same version number.

I have a Steam version and a non-Steam version. Both play exactly the same and are able to access the same servers.

OK well on the topic of IDs... let me try to edumacate you.

You are really dealing with 3 different IDs now.

1. Steam ID: only used when logging into Steam (automatically when you launch NWN2 purchased via Steam).  This is a Steam ID (duh).
2. BSN ID: only used when logging into these message boards.  This is an EA ID (stands to reason since they own BioWare now).
3. NWN2 MP ID: used when logging into MP to access the server browser.  This is an Atari ID (stands to reason since NWN2 is an Atari product).

Now, why do I go to all the time and trouble of pointing this out?

Well, for some reason, some people can't wrap their heads around the 3 IDs in play.  They somehow think an EA forum id should work when they try to log-in to an Atari game (or vice versa).  This of course queues up all sorts of rage against the machine and all those histrionics.  Handbags at dawn and all that stuff... very tiring.

When you launch the game and choose MP, it will give you the option to create an ID.  If you don't already have one (say from having played NWN MP), create one here.  You might get lucky and be able to use the same ID that you use to post here (your BSN ID), but make no mistake, even though the verbiage is the same, they are separate (two different companies... dig?).

GOG is NWN1, or Dex 1, that is the old DEX which still had lazy. Note to do MP in this you need to request proper cd keys, and get the

Steam is NWN2, and it's the one Seed did, which i am still running. Not a lot on at present, but it's still running, hopefully it fills up again this summer. I am busy adding more features, classes and ways for folks to kill each other and to create chaos.

You can use the same login for both NWN1 and NWN2, which is the OLD forums which they took down.

The Steam version requires a bit of elbow grease to get it to run.

I had to scour Google for a way to stop it from trying to install the .NET framework and inevitably getting hung at the install screen.

You also can't control which folder to install the game - it installs automatically into the folder with Steam.

And the download hogged so much bandwidth I couldn't play any multiplayer games while I was getting NWN2 =/

But otherwise, the servers are the same. Every server you see in the PW list here is visible in my server list. And since I got my copy for $9.99 I'm not complaining.

Most likely my first and last Steam game though, unless they release a Dragon Age full compilation for $9.99
