Nice thread, good try for the competition.

I hope they will patch the bugs soon because it sounds like there are some serious ones in there, not gamebreaking but serious.

A couple of questions.

How "squishy" did your warrior class characters feel? Can they take a good beating even without shields?

Did you notice any type of defence with just weapons? like a two handed user parrying?

Did you see any sweet killing moves? X D

If anyone in the party dual wielded how was the damage shown? single number for two swings or we talking seperate number each swing?

What specalisations did you get access to during play? if any? where they unlocked at the start?

I'm certain they'll put out some patches based on this gameplay, if not very soon.

Well, we didn't use a character without a shield, and whilst he was very strong indeed, the warrior could be very easily overwhelmed if he's on his own. No, as long as you have good armour, and two of them, I'm speculating that warriors could take a good beating, if they're beefed up with mages healing/attacking as well.

I had the camera zoomed out alot, I wasn't really watching alot of close combat actually, sorry! My eyes were on numbers and health bars, hah.

Oh yes, only the ogre ones however. You get that awesome killing move for every ogre.

We didn't use any dual wielders, so I really don't know much about that area.

The only ones we found were 'manuals' in certain shops, and these were sort of mid-way throughout the 24 hour journey. They were extremely expensive for where we were, though. So we didn't manage to unlock any specilizations!

It seams, at least in your quick run through money was at a premium. Did you find selling items made much cash? Where did you get most of your income (chests, looting, selling)

Were most of the items pretty standard or did you find a lot of special powers? What were those powers like, + attributes? any cool things like 5% chance to freeze opponent? I guess anything on the items you would like to share, wondering if the items from pre-ordering get surpassed quickly.

Hey, congrats on getting to 5th!   You beat the bajeezus out of team US at any rate, hahaha.  I was rooting for you guys and for belgium/netherlands after the US died based exclusively on how you guys held your skull.

I have a few questions.

1: Did you get to use Arcane Warrior or unlock it or whatever?  Can you do it by level 7?  If you did find it, how did you unlock it?  What were its abilities?

2: (Just read your old answer and saw you answered my potion question -_-;

Thanks! Though according the guys keeping the score, we were 3rd in terms of points when we got eliminated. You know, because of losing the xbox challenge it pushed us down to 5th though, but other than that we were infront of the last three countries. Your support was greatly appreciated, we kept F5ing all the comments on the livestream video/facebook and whatnot.

Sadly, no. All the specialization quests avoided us, it seemed, and only a few were being sold in shops. Didn't spot the Arcane Warrior one anywhere. From the looks of things, unless you know exactly what to do, trying to specialize at level 7 is going to be tricky.

Did you find archery useful compared to melee combat and magic?

Also, did dog and Shale have their own abilities and how many of them?

Thanks for answering questions you lucky, lucky bastard.

Only one situation archery proved useful, and that was on a boss, and only that time. Either we were using archey completely wrong, or we had bad equipment, I don't know. We personally stuck to melee and magic.

We didn't find Shale, I don't think he was on our version of the game actually, but the dog we got.

The dog has 8 talents, two rows of four. I can't remember all off the top of my head, but they were extremely useful. The dog is a downright awesome character.

Thank you for the answers, it's no problem really that you couldn't answer some. The tidbits you could give where nice and I feel the game is close enough that I can wait and entertain myself with other games meanwhile.

Alright, lets see here about the important questions;

1. If Zevran and Alistair were near naked in a pool of mud wrestling, who would win?

2. In your biased scrutiny of beauty, who what teh hawt, Morrigan o Leliana?

3. Team France posted a whole bunch of Warden Babes on their account, why were you not awesome like them?

4. Where are the photos of the Warden Studs?

5. Why didn't sing along with that member of Team Hungry bellowing out Queen's We are the campions?

6. How important is taunt abilities for Warriors to keep harder mobs/bosses from the rest of the team?

7. How effective were you in using the various stun talents of each class?

8. With the combat tactic slots, what do you feel is the most effect use for those that wish to play with full control of the party?

9. Graphical wise, how did you perceive them to be in comparison to other modern games.

10. How customizable are the hotkeys and hotbar?

11. Initially, what is the most effective line of spells for a Mage to take out large groups of mobs?

12. What talents did you feel were most effective on bosses for each of the classes?

13. Controlling your party memebers, did it feel smooth or jerky in transistion?

14. Did you have a sense of wonder when you entered into a new environment?

15. Had you participated in the romances within the game at all? If so what was your overall impression of them?

16. Did the storyline after the Origin feel like a natural progression or did it come in section with very little inbetween?

17. How effective was Rogue's backstabbing ability in combat.

18. Did you find that magical items were balaced overall and not too abundant?

19. How effective is the injury system at impeding your party members in combat?

20. Where you enticed by the Desire Demon at all with her promises?

That is all I can think of for now.

Hey there Paynejb. First off let me say great job in the competition and I wish I could have been there to enjoy it with all you guys. I wasn't rooting for the UK team but you seemed to hold your own well enough through most of the day (and on into the wee hours of the night). If you are still up for answering questions I have a few in mind you might be able to answer without giving away too much about the story or events in the game itself.

1. Did you find it reasonable to try and use characters against their "grain"? You mentioned that you had Morrigan pick up a basic healing spell just for good measure. Given more time or higher levels do you think you could have turned her into a decent support caster (not just a damage caster), or is she too heavily invested into being an avatar of fiery wrath to really change her style?

2. What was your take on the class specializations? What specialty did you choose for your main character, and why? How much did it end up influencing how you used your character?

Hello there! Well, thanks alot. Everyone seemed to be playing to their own strengths into the night, and we all did our best. Especially Canada, they can walk away with quite a story to tell about eliminations!

Morrigan was really the only character that we did such a thing you're describing, placing the heal spell upon her. Really, we wouldn't like to boost her much more than that, we weren't impressed too much by the healing skills further down the creation tree. However, we see no reason why we can't push her in any direction we wanted too. I would like to forget fiery explosion spells and push her down the entropy route, learning the devistating Sleep and then Horror combo to give enemies nightmares and deal some heavy damage to them. It seems to me that having some of the basic spells on all the mages would prove useful, heal being one of them, though moving onto buffs might be pressing it a bit far. It depends on how much more or less damage you want her to cause, and if your'e going to be using Wynne alongside her or not. The main bonus to Wynne is that Group Heal, and then Revival after that. Those skills were essentially to us progressing, really.

For us, we wanted to specialize in Champion for our tank. The buffs to defence and so on it had seemed perfect.. but we never found the specilization! Sadly. I'm certain those quests could be hunted out under no time constraint, but for this we just had to forget going after something that seemed quite niche. Some merchants do spell the manuals that teach specilizations, but they're quite pricey.

In the short time you were using Leliana, did you find that backstabs did a good amount of damage in comparison to the other party members damage?

I can't answer that, actually, we made her into an archer and disregarded her dual weapon skills. We've got no idea what her damage potential with those things were!

The Dog seemed to have two attacks on his hot bar. What were those? One was that howl, as you mentioned, but what was the other one? Just an attack? It seemed like a bark. I'm wondering if that's an aggro generator.

The other one was the talent that the dog starts with, Growl. Causes a penalty defence, though I think it's just one character that it's directed at, not a radius. Either way through, great for running in and going right after a mage. Using a growl, and then one of the savage talents later on that make the dog pounce something, and just attack it on the ground over and over. It's deliciously brutal.

how tactical is this game? they've always marketed this game as a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate. so i'm kinda expecting some battles with specific tactic requirements and some that require just mediocre tactics (mage debuffing, damaging. fighter up front and an archer).

also, my playstyle was having my main as a fighter-mage (upfront and on fire) minsc, jaheira, Khalid(bg1) dyneheir(bg1) aerie, nalia and in ToB sarevok. will i be able to transfer such a party to a 4 man dragon age equal? that is if you know :)

are there any ToB style battles? i played with the Ascension mod and i found to my enjoyment (weird huh) that taking down two dragons and the other goons took about 30 minutes without getting boring. did you experience any long challenging battles?

and please tell me you enjoyed that event, i'd give my spine and left thumb to be there, i watched it all 24 hours and since Denmark wasn't represented i put my countrys support on the shoulders of Team Bioware Community (sorry UK).

It depends on the difficulty, it seems. Easy requires little tactics, it's when you get to normal mode that it suddenly becomes very, very important.  There are going to be battles that fall into that normal tactics line, putting some tanks on a choke point and stationing mages/archers far enough behind that they dont get injured and so on. Quite a few times it was imperative to rush a mage behind enemy lines, because it can really decimate your party if left untouched. Bosses each seem to require a very different strategy, the one's we've encountered so far have been drastically different in what tactics we use to approach them, making us rethink our attack everytime we were brought back to that reload screen.

30 minutes is an awfully long time in a 24 hour competition, but nah, we never came across such a long fight. Of course, we were at the beginning and barely touching the main story quests, there could have been so much we missed out on. There have been many that are challenging thus far, but not that have been longer than at least ten minutes.

Oh yeah, we all enjoyed it thoroughly! It really was a thrill to have the @biofeed twitter announce that we had slayed the Ogre first, and it was alot of fun throughout.

Don't worry about not supporting us, we all did what we could with this brand new game! It was tough having so little time to adjust, I tell you.

First, thanks for the info - much appreciated.

Now for my big question - do you think Morrigan could be turned into a decent primary healer, even if she can't get the Spirit Healer specialization? Otherwise we're being forced to take Wynne.

Well, in short.. no. She lacks Group Heal and Revival, which instantly puts her at a huge disadvantage when compared to Wynne's healing ability.

I'm hoping that maybe something else opens up later into the game, because I'm skeptical about being shoehorned into having to use Wynne every time I playthrough this game. Hopefully there is just some other alternative.

I have no idea how NIGHTMARE difficulty will be possible with the problems some of the teams had with the ogre. Holy ****!

It would have been fun to see how far everyone got in 24 hours on Nightmare.

Probably still in the tutorial from what it sounds like. D:

I have a question about the bugs.
When you say they were not game breaking do you mean you didn't need to reload and it was only a short minor annoyance for you? The rest of my questions would be too spoilerish to ask :P

Oh yes, just a short minor annoyance. Nothing broke my game, although we did notice that another team's game did crash. Other than that though, I can't recall any other dangerous bugs.

I forgot one more major question: With Leliana, could she use Rogue specific talents (dirty fighting, below the belt, deadly strike) with her bow and arrow? Did she ever apply archery backstab damage? Were bard songs noticeably beneficial enough to justify removing her from combat?

I don't believe those Rogue specific talents can be used with a bow and arrow, they appear to just be up close and physical. I could be completely wrong however, because I admit to never trying it, but from what I gather they're only physical. I've no idea about backstab damage, I never once noticed that appear. I think we broke Leliana, basically. We also didn't use her Bard songs so much, which on hindsight was probably something we should have looked more into.
She just seems like someone who needs some time to learn and understand, because no one into this event seemed to be using Leliana at all.

Selling items made just just enough money to buy potions, and then we had no money. Any we had instantly went on potions, and then very little was left over. I would say our income definitely came down to looting and selling, although we didn't do a whole lot of either.

We got very little loot that we actually ended up equipping, actually. There was one or two good bits of armour that helped alot, but really, there wasn't a whole lot of items with substantial +attribute/whatever factors that we came across. All in all, it may just be down to us rushing through it and not getting all the good loot. There was never a sword or anything that instantly made us think 'wow, this is a tremendously awesome find!'.

thanks for the answer, tactics were always my weak and strong point at the same time. i've gotta say that the 30 min battle was caused by much pausing and thinking coupled with very equal forces, taking down two dragons at a time(first runthrough) is tough, even though the DA high dragon looked like a lot bigger handful. how was that elimination challenge? can he be killed at the level you were or does he belong in the higher levels?

i look forward to diverse boss battles. 10 minute battles seems very very awesome, asuming the length is caused by equality in powers so that the right tactic was required to turn the tides. there's nothing like facing a foe worthy of receiving a buttkicking for goodness.

i gotta hand it to ya, you played well you should be proud of that, since the knowledge you were given about classes and specs were quite limited compared to the true size of this.

We didn't try herbalism ourselves, simply because we didn't know how the system works. However, as we played, there was a constant supply of bushes etc. that gave us herbs, they were extremely frequent. It might be something to look into, although knowing the recipes would help. 'Elfroot' was everywhere.

Combat training on a mage means they dont get interrupted as often as they do when attacked, however we only put one point of it onto Wynne, and to be honest there was no noticable effect. Either she wasn't attacked enough for us to gage that, or the increase only shines through later on.
