First of all, congratulations on the 5th place. And secondly, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions.

I only have one question:
- When a new character joins the party do they start from level 1 and with enough experience to reach a level similar to the PC (meaning you get to allocate the attribute, skill and talent points), or they join you already at that level with fixed skills and talents?

Thanks in advance.

How powerful was offensive magic compared to melee attacks?

Did you use a lot of buffs and debuffs every fight?

Was mana an issue a lot in both normal and boss fights?

how was the loot in this game? Was there a great deal and variety of loot? Was there loot that you would consider "godly" or extremely good? Was the loot color coded?

Alright, lets see here about the important questions;

1. If Zevran and Alistair were near naked in a pool of mud wrestling, who would win?
2. In your biased scrutiny of beauty, who what teh hawt, Morrigan o Leliana?
3. Team France posted a whole bunch of Warden Babes on their account, why were you not awesome like them?
4. Where are the photos of the Warden Studs?
5. Why didn't sing along with that member of Team Hungry bellowing out Queen's We are the campions?
6. How important is taunt abilities for Warriors to keep harder mobs/bosses from the rest of the team?
7. How effective were you in using the various stun talents of each class?
8. With the combat tactic slots, what do you feel is the most effect use for those that wish to play with full control of the party?
9. Graphical wise, how did you perceive them to be in comparison to other modern games.
10. How customizable are the hotkeys and hotbar?
11. Initially, what is the most effective line of spells for a Mage to take out large groups of mobs?
12. What talents did you feel were most effective on bosses for each of the classes?
13. Controlling your party memebers, did it feel smooth or jerky in transistion?
14. Did you have a sense of wonder when you entered into a new environment?
15. Had you participated in the romances within the game at all? If so what was your overall impression of them?
16. Did the storyline after the Origin feel like a natural progression or did it come in section with very little inbetween?
17. How effective was Rogue's backstabbing ability in combat.
18. Did you find that magical items were balaced overall and not too abundant?
19. How effective is the injury system at impeding your party members in combat?
20. Where you enticed by the Desire Demon at all with her promises?

That is all I can think of for now.

1. Zevran, he doesn't seem to be afraid to uhh.. dive into the action.
2. I think Leliana, I actually really like her character design over Morrigan. I don't like all that black on the witch woman.
3. Because they were from the UK, so they didn't want to distract us as much as they did the other teams. Har har.
4. If only I knew.
5. They seemed to be doing enough singing as it was! Didn't want to detract from their moment of glory.
6.We went with Threaten, and whilst one or two enemies got past, the
majority were attracted to the tank using that aggro control.
7. We spammed those stun skills, because they are extremely overpowered. Stun is very, very good.
8.Really, I would leave combat tactics completely. If I had to choose, it
would only be healing potions on self, or healing spells on other. Even
then, I'd prefer to micro manage all of that, especially on the PC.
9.Very beautiful. The Towns and scenery looked so amazing in some places,
it was eye candy. Watching a character talk is also somewhat
mesmerizing, they did a good job at the presentation. The engine is a
big step up from the videos released months and months ago.
10.Fully, the hotkeys can be reassigned and the hotbar can be dragged
across the entire bottom of the screen, if you want that.
11. The first fire spell is the only first level spell that affects more than
one enemy, so really it's going to be the best. Fire weapons, I feel,
is forgettable, but that leads onto Fireball and then Inferno, gigantic
AOE spells that can completely decimate the enemy. And uhh.. your
party, if you're not careful.
12. When it came to bosses, they had many natural resistances. It was good to have the tank draw attention,
whilst putting on the talent that boosted defence at the cost of
attack, though I forget the exact name. It's in the sword and shield
line. From there, it's good to pelt the boss with whatever single
target spells you have, and just try to keep that tank between the boss
and whatever squishies you have.
13. Jerky at first, simply because of getting used to the controls. However, within a short while
it became alot smoother in transition. The only problem was, accidently
overwriting the command you just gave to a party member by clicking on
something else other than the next portrait of the character you wanted
to switch to. Other than that though, fine.
14. We haven't been to that many places so far, and those that we have were either the
standard towns, innards of buildings, and forests. Really, it wasn't
bad design, but it didn't scream wonder either. Perhaps thats just
because I wanted to rush through and complete it, but I would really
like a longer while at perusing at the design qualities that were put
into the environment.
15. We tried to get Leliana towards the end of our playthrough, though it came down to a case of simply smothering
her in gifts, and hoping they added alot. Through conversation, we
found out what exact type of flower she loves, that she loves flowers
in general, and also shoes. So naturally, we tried to find flowers and
shoes to throw at her essentially. We didn't manage to complete it, but
we did the romance in a completely unnatural way, to be honest.
16. Again, little was paid to the storyline, we just wanted to avoid
thinking too much on the dialogue and getting onto progression. Thus,
we asked as little questions as we could. However, from where we were
shepharded from place to place, the whole thing felt natural enough. I
never thought 'huh, that's a weird, out of place plot direction'.
17. Didn't have a go at it.
18. The magical items we found were few and far between, and they were all
really at the same, low level as the starting magical equipment for
some characters.
19. We played through alot of the game with
injuries, and we managed to scrape victories somehow. We weren't
actually keeping track of injuries, so we played through regardless and
didn't have too much trouble.
20. I uhh.. was having lunch just as the team went after the desire demon I pointed out in
that room. When I came back, it was dead! No idea what happened in the conversation.

I know you mentioned that skills were rarer than was thought. Do you remember about how many you had when you were eliminated?

Now you mention it, we had gained three new skills. Being at level 10, I'm going to speculate that it's every 4 levels. so 1, 5, 9 etc.

Could be wrong, though.

hey good job in the competition, i wanna know how much party banter was there?

Thanks!

There is alot based on who you do have your party, it's mostly down to luck if you chose the right people, really.

You can talk with them anytime as you're walking around too, and also in camp they may instantly start a dialogue up with you before you even have a choice.

So lots!

Well, crap. I was going to take Allistair with me, but now I'm thinking about taking Dog just to see him tackle and subsequently shred a Dark Spawn's hide.

Thanks for the Answer. :)

Thank you for the kind words. (:

The latter, sadly. I would have preferred the first option myself. Alistair starts off with a lot of sword and shield talents for example, where I would have wanted to put it elsewhere.

Also, I'm not sure about what level they join you at. Some characters were the same level, others a couple higher. Havent seen higher than two levels above, though.

Wow, that kind of sucks. So the later you recruit a character, the less choice you get about how they progress and specialize.

Gratz on being there....

You say you with a S/S warrior, whats your impressions on it?

Secondly, Did you find that you "had" upgrade your amour before you had to upgrade your weapon.

Thanks!

I thought it was pretty solid. Has some good defensive skills to boost defence at the cost attack, though further talent points get rid of the attack reduction. Threaten was good for aggro control, naturally. Shield Bash to knock enemies over, and Shield Pummel to stun them, were both extremely useful when used well. All in all, a pretty solid first playthrough character I think. Quite safe and easy to use.

Well, we just picked up whatever armour came along. I actually dont think we bought any. Though when playing without time constraints, I'd go for armour first. Armour is more important than a weapon for an S/S warrior.

Looks that way. That clinches it. I'll be taking dog on my first play through with my Human Noble Warrior and Allistair on my second play through with my Dwarven Commoner Rogue.

This had been pretty staple in most Bioware games, as the characters tend to autolevel to a degree. I would say most have a predefined palette in which skills are set depending on your current level.

Thank you!

Well actually, I didn't go on the console one alot myself, although I did dabble with it a little bit. It's definitely no where near as tactical as the PC version, you can't zoom out to look from above, for example. It's a quite well made control system, I'm just far too used to the PC controls to do the console controls so well!
Myself, I do not like it, though many people were using the console controls well enough and were having little trouble with it. They seem to have done a good job at porting it.
The graphics were perhaps slightly toned down, just some textures and lighting effects.

Do you think you'd be able to play in the same style as the Console version on the PC version? Sort of a more Action RPG style? Or would that severely hamper your chances of survival?

Offensive magic did seem to be strong than melee, although that might just be down to the starter equipment that we carried on using for a long while. Either way, it's good.
Some of the creation buffs, the Heroic ones for example, are useful before a tough fight. Sleep and Stun are decimating debuffs to place on enemies, and infact Sleep then Horror on the sleeping enemy is a very strong spell combo.
In normal fights, not so much, unless the fight was a particularly difficult one.
There's usually lyrium (mana) potions around, but it's good to ration out spells if you know the fight is going to last a while.

Paynejb,

Your patience and thoroughness in answering our questions is truly laudable- thanks for feeding the starving DA:O fanbeast. Just a wee query: the devs have mentioned that there are a few opportunities in the game to improve attributes or talents without leveling up. Did you happen upon anything like this?

First, thank you for taking your time and answering questions.:kissing:

1.) Any Indications if Morrigan might be able to take up SpiritHealer specialisation or not ?

2.) what lvl did you characters have by the end of the wardens quest event

3.) at what lvl did you finish your origin

4.) do companions get skills aswell or is that for player character only

5.) How was the general companion interaction between morrigan/leiliana and especially once you started romancing one?
(no need to spoil details ;) just how you liked it or if it was not existent)

6.) which companion banter for pccompanion and companioncompanion did you enjoy most during your play?

thanks for the reply payne, as mages seem limited in skills its kind of hard to decide whats worth it - for example training seems good but if you do a good job with tanks it shouldn't be needed!

onto my next question, there is no mana regen in combat right and is going group heal economical? for example instead of going 1 slot into heal tree to get heal going instead 1 slot into the spirit healer tree? did you feel it's worth it? i'm mainly thinking on my main where i'd be the only caster and if mana doesn't regen in combat it'd seem like running out of mana during combat would be extremely common (especially if you heal), for example - not sure how accurate this is but in DAJ the group heal cost 75 mana while normal was only 25 and the healer could only group heal twice before running out of mana.

grats for the good perfomance and thanks for the disponibility(?) to answer our questions :)

here my questions

1) how is the mana/spell usage? is it possible to go heavy on spells or high mana costs make them mostly usefull for tactical situations and generally mages have to rely on their staff for dmg?

2) how will you compare magic dmg vs melee (and dog in particular)... staff vs melee, nukes vs melee

3) i ready you had some troubles with enemy mages, have you tried to "shut down" them with various mana removal spells? did you find many enemy mages or critters who drained the mana of your mages?

4) CC, it seem that many classes have strong CC abilities, i suppose the duration is quite low to balance that but generally... you think CC is balanced in the game or is too strong?

5) saving throws... in D&D you have really to maximize your casters to be able to apply magic on mobs (cept the low level ones) how it works in DAO? is it easy for mobs to save or generally your spells hit them whitout much troubles?

6) how works aggro? is just direct dmg on mob or every mob "friendly" to your target will get some indirect aggro?, how about heals? they generate much aggro?

7) to use a war as starting class was your choice or defined by rules? if was a team choice, any other team tryed a dfferent starter?

thanks again :)
