Yes, this would be beyond irritating and lead to a feeling of 'why play this character? They'll just disappear no matter how good an ending I get. *shelf game*' The warden's story had a useable ending (although I wanted further adventures as no story is ever truly over as new things can happen), but they took that ending away. That means we have to know what happens next, or be left with something totally unsatisfying.IronWolf1987 wrote...
I can't be the only one who would be incredibly disappointed if both Hawke and the Warden were just gone. Neither of them have had their stories finished (except for ultimate sacrifice warden), and both were left on major cliffhangers. Why do people keep insisting that their stories are done and over? In my mind both were just getting warmed up.
So About The Warden...

If Hawke reappears it will either be as the main protagonist or in a cameo; as a major NPC they'd have to record at least three different sets of lines to reflect whether the Hawke from DA2 was primarily nice, comical or mean.

I found my warden's story both personal and heroic. Not at all generic. While I liked Hawke, I found the warden's story much more compelling. But that's beside the point. Both Hawke and the Warden disappeared, which means that both those disappearances should be resolved, or their victories (is Hawke's can be called that) become hollow.IronWolf1987 wrote...

Let's hope to god it's not - but if they're going to continue the trend of making stories about humans, rather then stories about generic heroes, then a new person is a much better vessel then someone who has already saved the universe the last time around. And bioware knows that, that's why we played hawke in DA2.
Better in what way? Better in that it would be easier to tell such a story or that a story about a human is better if said human doesn't save the world?
Furthermore why couldn't the next chapter in the Warden's story be more personal in nature? Is there some rule out there saying that if a character was once a generic hero they can never be anything more?

If Hawke reappears as NPC, i will probably burn the game instead playing it.sten_super wrote...
The only way I can see the Warden reappearing is using the fairly cliched 'memory loss' technique, thereby allowing players to retcon in their own backstory to what would be to all intents and purposes a new character. ME2/KOTOR2 style questions could then be used to ascertain the events of Origins. From the gimped save game editor it seems that DA2 does not import any physical appearance stuff from the Warden so it couldn't be imported from a save game.

you think? i took it that somehow hawke and the warden are the keys to ending the war. remember, at the end of awakening it says the warden left vigil's keep after a few years, so he's out and about doing the golems and witch hunt plots, and then presumably other traveling. the warden has another 20 years before his calling. i think leliana's comment was more a reflection of the desperate situation they're in than a comment that hawke and the warden are gone. maybe part of da3 is the warden is found and has to hunt down your hawke pc to then go fight to stop the mage-templar war. the possibilities are endless. i love the ending of da2, btw.RazorrX wrote...
I took that scene to mean that they were looking for established heroes to help them end the mage-templar war. After it is mentioned that they are both "gone", Cassandra asks if they should keep looking or go on to plan "B".
The response was 'It is in the Maker's hands".
SO my take, the warden and Hawk have gone for all intents and purposes. Hawke had to flee for is life, and the Warden is gone for what ever reason (his calling, ran off with Morrigan, got tired of Sister Stabbity and ran away, Hunting Cookies with Sten, etc.) They will not be a part of the next game as it will have a new hero rise to the call.

I couldn't agree more. I wouldn't say I'm entirely certain why I connected so much more with my warden than Hawke but I can certainly hazzard a few guesses. (Voiced prot, paraphrase wheel, etc)
While playing DA2, as much as I enjoyed certain sections, and liked Hawke a lot more than Shepard, he still wasn't me. I just couldn't help but lament my warden, and just knew if he were here, then everything would be so much better.

why can't da3 continue with a level cap of 50 and hawke and the warden at level 35? if they don't nerf the difficulty like they did in awakening it shouldn't be a problem. just scale the templars and mages to the warden and hawke.sten_super wrote...

So it would be possible for Hawke or the Warden to return as a pc. Any why not? Having every main character mysteriously disappear for good after the end of the game isn't exactly the opposite of lame either. If you know what I mean. I'm honestly not thinking we get a new protagonist, so it is going to be our Warden or Hawke. Maybe we can even choose.

Then The Hero of Neverwinter walks in and starts dancing. Meanwhile we have a cameo from the forgotten Baldur's Gate hero and tears swell up in his/her eyes as she/he walks out of the bar - alone and forgotten. Meanwhile, Hawke has passed out from the drink.

You've got that backwards, mate. CHARNAME would be the one dancing, while the Hero of Neverwinter would be outside in the rain. S/he didn't even star in the expansion of their own game.

They didn't star in their own expansion because they were too busy dancing in the citadal before Shepherd was even born. The Baldur's Gate hero has truly become a piece of the forgotten realms.
