More options? For some 5% of players? Right...

And there it is. We're only 5%, so we're not important. There's the "majority privilege" that's just incredibly distasteful.

I can see where the issue is, it's not that they're mad more people get more options it is intact how it was done, as a bi gamer, I like the option, but I don't applaud it, I much prefer the style of DAO, because I know I can't just hit on any girl or guy and them being completely into it, and one of the straight romances even tells your sister that men are only good for one thing while women are good for six and openly sexes her way through half of Kirkwall that's not exactly what I would call fair for anybody romancing her.

How do you figure "insane" here? I've looked at Leliana's dialog file, and making her bi was simply not that much work.

Going from a scenario that you can suspend you disbelief easily enough about to one in which everybody who is an LI is bisexual just so everybody can have the same "options." That is simply shallow writing by my standards.

Hm, well, the Human Noble could bed the servant elf girl or the son, regardless of your own gender. They certain didn't seem the least bit surprised.

A noble can afford any number of boys and girls to do anything with them, sure. That was actually a good example of belieble bisexuality in a setting. Something which is explained and done well. But I think most of the Fereldan women are encouraged to have three to 9000 babies so Loghain will make soldiers out of them and go conquer that darn Orlais. And they should be boys, cause boys make better soldiers. But how could we get enough fanservice if our party did't consist of all exeptions from medieval glory, eh?

It is extremely unlikely that all of them just happen to be bisexual. In fact it is more likely that everybody in Hawke's party would be straight. Yet I'm guessing some people might complain if that was the case. It was a deliberate move designed to pander to a small community of players.

I've had it up to here with your made up statistics and accusations of pandering simply because the game isn't exactly how YOU want it.
This option doesn't infringe on you other than you having to deal with the fact that bisexual people exist

It depends on how you view representation. Should 80% of the resources be devoted to males because 80% of people playing the game are male ? Or should it be 50/50 ?

It's kind of like how some provinces are worth more than others in voting, but everyone gets 1 vote.

I find all of this distasteful, but being part of the majority means it doesn't matter right? <_< Romances in Bioware games in general have gone from a minor addition to a mess filled with raving fanboys, communities that are offended when they don't get every option they want, and more.

I wonder if EA stockholders know about the DA2 dev's stance on not wanting to cater to the majority.

Insane? There are four people who desire a soulmate and partner, and it just so happens they find that in Hawke no matter Hawke's gender. There's nothing insane or pandering about that.

You imply that straight gamers will only ever play as Hawkes mirroring their own gender and sexuality. This isn't the case. I'm a straight male. I've romanced Merrill and Fenris as a male Hawke and Isabella as a female Hawke, and I appreciate the added options. I'm sure your response will be some inane blather about FIVE PERCENT OF THE PLAYERS but whatever, I've said my piece.

Crazy thing... you don't actually have to be gay to play a gay character... weird world eh?

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. Yes, all the LIs are bi, but the fact is this doesn't even come up if you don't seek it out. In my male playthrough, neither Isabella or Merrill ever expressed interest in girls, and I never chose to hit on Fenris and he never hit on me. The only time any bisexuality came up was when Anders tried to flirt with me and I said no. One time in the whole game. How is that a big deal to anyone?

That said, if it really bothers people, I wouldn't mind if orientation were selectable at character creation just like gender is.

Your argument is "oh they just happen to all be bisexual" but if the mathematically far more likely scenario occured you would whine and claim Bioware is discriminating against you. In short you want the game to be what YOU want and if people disagree they are homophobes/whatever and should shut up.

They do cater to the majority. They just don't exclusively cater to the majority. There is a big difference.

I never cried discrimination with DA:O, so you're full of crap. Bye bye.

Oh please. Your entire argument is based around the idea that gay players are "entitled" to this content which is absolute BS. Just because you think it is fine now, doesn't mean it is so.

This is such bull****.

They added something for somebody, be it black people, gay people, or perverted people. You feel that others should be denied something because they make you uncomfortable. You feel you deserve greater consideration than others purely because you aren't them.

It is not entitlement to want to have equal access. It is entitlement to want exclusive access simply because your desire for comfort deserves higher consideration than their desire to have the same things you do.

For example, I'm not one to like one of my male 'companions' to hit on me during the game (or thinks of me sexually - it's uncomfortable to me as a player ) so if I want, I should be be able to change my companions to straight males or straight females if I so choose.

Hasn't that ever happened to you in real life? Happens to me all the time... I am approached or flirted with by someone who is maybe not my preference. Usually I turn them down (which you can do by not clicking on the heart and reminding the NPC "hey, that's not how I swing"). It's not like everyone wears a sign that says GAY or STRAIGHT and sometimes you have to go out on a limb and flirt a little, maybe the person turns you down, or maybe they are interested. When a character like Anders comes forward it makes me think he's that much more immersive. NPCs shouldn't respond to your whims, flirting with you only when you flirt with them. When has that been the case in real life? Last I checked I can't 'toggle' people hitting on me when I'm out in the real world.

And if people are really upset about losing 10 points of friendship, then maybe he or she should tote Anders along on a templar quest and mouth off about templars and how they suck; it's not difficult to earn it back.

I thought I'd never see the day but I've become a bigger fan of the Dragon Age series than of the ME one. It feels quite nice to be considered when they are making a game for a broader audience whereas elsewhere I'm a minority so I don't matter.

You know what? If you like the majority being catered too so much, go play Gothic.
White male character, straight relationships only. Must be your dream. Quit whining because others do it differently, nobody forces you to play DA2.

I'm a straight male gamer as well, and tend to play straight male characters.  Yet my two favorite BW romances are Liara and Leili.

The accusations that making companions bi hurts their integrity and the integrity of the writing I find to be completely false.  I also have no issue with making more options available to folks.  If someone wants to romance Alistair or Kaidain with their male PC or Miranda or Morrigan with their female PC why not?  Why should I get what I find enjoyable out of the game but they shouldn't?  That sense of entitlement just doesn't make any sense at all to me.

And yes isabela does say she likes both women and men but has a lot more about women listen to the character dialogues
