I have come near the end. I have sided with the mages. I am at the point where the chief mage resorts to blood magic and he becomes a nasty behometh... I have killed all the nasties, but I am stuck out on the platform. The only way out is blocked by a fire barrier.
How do I exit this area?

You should be able to continue when all the enemies are dead. (there's also a short finishing-mvoe cinematic when you kill him) Try to reload save? Or apply the 1.01 patch, if you haven't already?
