The quests are messy and buggy, but if you have foreknowledge of these problems then you can avoid all the issues on future playthroughs.
It is ok but not great, nothing really awesome happens when you push your button, though some of the new skills will have your characters hitting very hard.
I don't regret having it, though I bought the Ultimate edition and got that plus all the DLC which was a very good deal. If you do not have any of the DLC addons then you might be better off shopping around for the Ultimate Edition, it is worth it I think.

For more info on bugs, especially the nasty Silverite Mines bug, check the wiki site.

It's definitely shameful that EA couldn't be bothered to do anything but collect your money and laugh.

I was lucky enough to get the Ultimate Edition, so I really didn't have to pay for it (for $34.99 I kinda feel everything in the Ultimate Edition beyond the core Game was just gravy) so maybe I'm a bit more forgiving.
It is true that it is a buggy mess and the Silverite Mine bug almost made me stop playing right there, but there are some nice moments and some interesting new characters.

I just bought it for £6 pounds though, can't go far wrong with that price, can I?

that being said, it has a good story, the new companions are interesting and well written, it contains at least one decision likely to be important when imported into future content and introduces you to some of the characters who will appear in DA2
I'd definitely say that any fan of Origins should play it at least once, especially now the price is lower

The easiest way to avoid Joining bugs is to do Shadows of the Blackmarsh quest line after Righteous Path and Last of the Legion. Oh, and before you enter the Silverite Mines, take off any DLC equipment and make a "reload here to avoid bugs" save file before proceeding.
Hope that helps.

So I need to do Velanna's Joining before The Righteous Path, or do the Rightous Path questline first of the main plot quests? I'm not sure I understand the bug on the wiki. http://dragonage.wik...lanna's_Joining
The items that get lost in the Silverite Mines are character/class specific items. Those are items that only the warden or certain companions can wear, or certain items that are labeled "blood mage only" or items that an arcane warrior would be wearing but a regular mage could not due to strength requirements. If anyone in the party is wearing anything that's character/class specific, then just unequip it. If you want to play it safe, then just have everyone enter the mines naked, though it's not necessary. I like having to hunt down the ghouls for my gear. If you go in naked, the ghouls won't have anything to loot, and will basically be just another enemy to kill. Either way, it's still a good idea to have a separate file prior to entering the mines.

Depending on if your Warden survived killing the Archdemon, he/she makes a return in awekening. You are treated with high respect, and you'll get the chance to meet some people from Origins. You can choose to play as a new Orlesian character, but it ain't as much fun as your character from Origins.
Your companions are not as good as in Origins, but it's cool when everyone is a Grey Warden (if they survive the joining that is. It depends entirely on you).
How long is the game, you ask? About 10-15 hours, so it's basically worth the money

It would have been a great expansion pack if it was longer. It felt rushed when i played throught it.
Awakening suffers from pretty much the same problem as DA2. both are good but could have been so much better had they not been rushed

The two major moral choices in it, for example, outstrip just about any of the ones you can make in Origins.

So I havn't heard the nicest things about DA awakening, but saw for 15 dollars on amazon.com. Is it worth it? Or should I just avoid it?
You know, I was thinking the same thing so I wrote to EA customer support.
Me: (Email sent March 25, 2011)
Just wondering if there is another patch in the works to fix all the bugs listed on the Awakenings wiki here:
http://dragonage.wik...g_Bugs/Glitches
I haven't bought Awakenings due to the amount of known bugs. I would buy the game if there was a new patch to fix the bugs.

Cheers - I've just started it up and imported my character from Origins, except he's now naked. My Warden Commander's armour from the Warder's Keep is missing.

Any of the dlc items from Origins, except for those in Return to Ostagar, don't import to Awakening. If I import a warrior, for example, I make sure he's wearing Cailan's armor or any of the Wade armor sets.
If your game is fully patched, your warden should have started with a set of replacement gear. Some people intentionally import a naked warden just to get access to the set. It's the same starter gear that an Orlesian warden would be wearing.

Basically I wish I could just remove awakening because it's that useless, but it came as a package.
It's sad because I loved Mass Effect (both) and loved origins (got into that after ME) but seeing how the DLC for this game was soooo bad, the xpac was sooooo bad and now watching what DA2 is like (day one DLC and worst customer reviews for any major title, maybe ever)....I'll never buy a Bioware title for full sticker, ever. Was hoping that the starwars mmo comming out would be something to look forward to, now...not so much.
