Self inserted fan fiction, not sure what your on about?. I was on about the divine comedy a famous poem, by dante algihieri basically dante goes through purgatory paradise and hell and he describes what he sees and his thoughts.
Exactly that. They guy wrote a book about himself and the poet he adores the most, teaming up to kick satans ass.
I didn't say it was a bad read mind you, especially recognizing its age, but it's about as shallow and broody as you could get during that time.

I think I'm going to have to Yaoi-romance him at some point. Just because.
(I usually play female characters.)

I get the drift they kind of want to be each other. Merril wants to live a bit, enjoy life and Isabela doesnt want to be such a shallow spunk dumpster.
I am not sure Isabel wants to change her life. She merely thinks other people might deserve more then what she has. Isabel made a few decisions that caused her to lose a lot, and she is struggling with the concept of having a real friend. It is not easy to accept this and act in a way that differs from what life has thought you. I think she believes in a short life and that she shall not live to grow old (because of her occupation). As a dueler, she strives for making a name for herself too. She probably was betrayed one too many times.
I did not like her at all, but especially watching her "friendship" to Aveline evolve made me reconsider. She turns out to be a rather caring person.

I used dante because I love the story of dantes inferno and I thought the name sounded cool. I have never played DMC....
Ah? Dante is a cool name. I would love to try Dante's inferno sometime.
DMC series is awesome, but it is difficult to master. Once you get hang of it, you'll blast trough your advessaries thou!

It's a bit of a cliché, but Isabela has that whole "I don't want to hurt the people I'm close to, so I won't allow myself to get close to them" attitude. As such, she's never had much need for loyalty in either direction, but that can obviously change.
What? That's the best attitude of them all! I always RP a hero like that, the kind of who rides in to the sunset leaving everything behind him, torwards the new adventures!

Until you realize that the people you left behind were actually important to you, and turn around.

You have to admit that anybody who can stop in the middle of a stereotypical emo rant before he really gets going and say 'You're not the author of my misery... why am I angry at you?' doesn't have some depth, at least.

Which did't work, because things like Isabela bein bugged if gone friendly path, and both Isabela and Fenris being so shallow and, to some people, repulsive, that noone even bothered to try and dig deeper into their personalities (also, actor who played Fenris sometimes caused "I AM ACTING" shouts from my mouth). The writers used a classic characterization trick.
Take Sten for example - the situations he was in, his voice, character, everything just pulled you to him and gave a feeling of need to solve his quest just to find out why he did what he did.
