One of my favourite levels in Dragon Age: Origins was in the Fade when helping the Circle of Magi. I lived the complexity of it and the amount of time trying to figure it all out and walking around as a stone golem was awesome! And the fact that we could learn more about the characters' pasts (except for the Warden because that was kinda boring) which was always fun.

Dragon Age II was a bit disappointing in this regard. The companions' emotions were manipulated instead of a past specific level and it was always only 2 of the 4 instead of everyone. The level was boring, in my opinion, and I think they could have done so much more with it, especially when compared to Origins. And also that some characters (like Sebastian) refused to enter the Fade also made it boring.

Anyone agree with me? Comments, critisisms, arguments?

So a character refusing to follow you blindly because he has his own personal beliefs and opinions and sticks to them is a bad thing ?

Apart from that I did not like the fade so much in DA:O and I'm happy how it was executed in DA2.

About the Origins thing, I guess most people disagree with you :P (With the 'Skip the Fade' mod and all), but in DA2 I belive they got it quite well, actually.

It's not necassrily a bad thing. I understand why he doesn't want to go into the Fade but I'm still curious as to what a demon would say to him in the Fade.

Personally I've enjoyed all three takes on the Fade so far (Origins, Awakening, II), but I would have liked to enter it more than once per campaign... not counting the Harrowing in Origins.

For a future game, or expansion, I'd like the experiences diversified further by your choice of class (and perhaps race). Like, if you're a mage you might have to wander into the Fade on occasion, while a rogue might have its exclusive stealth missions, etc.

There is a lot of difference between following you blindly and trying to kill you - obviously they forgot that if you die in the Fade you become tranquil. I killed two people in the Fade and it didn't effect them at all. I suppose you could make the argument that it wasn't their dream, but still.

Also, where was the Black City in the fade?

Codex from Origins:

No traveler to the Fade can fail to spot the Black City. It is one of the few constants of that ever-changing place. No matter where one might be, the city is visible. (Always far off, for it seems that the only rule of geography in the Fade is that all points are equidistant from the Black City.)

Excellent point! I had forgotten!

I'd love a Dev to comment on this, to be honest. It's been bothering me to no end. I'd like to know if they simply overlooked this bit of lore or if there was a reason for it not being visible.

I just loaded up my Harrowing save from my Mage character, and the Black City was right there in plain sight. :P

EDIT: Now, if you were referring specifically to DAII... the DAII Fade area was sort of in-doorsey, wasn't it?

Oooooh, so that's the black city?

I ponder if the mages brought the plague with them from the fade? :)

It was just kinda sad that it was so... short. There was hype about going into the fade and it being a big thing, but reality was that it was short, boring and didn't do much.

I love the idea of the Fade and I did like the circle quest in DA:O but the back-tracking got boring is all. I did love saving everyone from their dreams - I was hoping for a more interesting Fade quest in DA2 not a shorter one ... so I was rather disappointed. I want the Fade to mess with your head more, not just have demons blatantly trying to ask you for favours. Have people you know turn up and say horrible things, have nightmares from a companion's subconscious plague you (giant lions all called Ser-Pounce-a-lot, templars on fire for Anders etc Fenris wrapped in chains, reliving his lyrium torture) I mean come on! It's a place where nothing is as it seems, where demons warp your dreams to drag you deeper. They should be tempting you, horrifying you, not coming up to you and going "wanna make a deal? no? aw ok then ..."
I just feel like the Fade has a lot of potential and no one is doing anything with it ... it's rather frustrating. I really want a big long interesting Fade quest in a DLC/expansion/DA3. It's one of my favourite DA things because of that unused potential ...

I agree. I would have loved for it to be much longer and it would have been so much cooler if all the characters in the party would have been affected and not just two of the four.

Personally I found the fade to be boring in DA:O. Probably the worst part of the game for me. In DA2 I found it to be much better, a lot shorter and better than that it was optional.

I would have liked more out of DA2's Fade section, such as getting an appearance by your dead sibling, blaming you for not protecting them from the ogre, maybe even an appearance by dear departed daddy, give us a chance to meet him.

Also, I found the most interesting part of the Fade in DAO was the nightmares of your party members, so I wish that we could have taken the whole party in and see them all be tempted. Put the friendship/rivalry system to the test and see them all get a temptation, see if Hawke can talk them out of it.

Yeah, if it wasn't for the "Skip the Fade" mod I wouldn't have played DAO was many times as I did.

I've had enough of the fade tbh. The little bit in DA2 was good.

Although I did not hate DA:2's Fade, I did find it disappointing.

They pandered far too much to the lazy people who hated Origins Fade.

I hope a compromise is reached in Dragon Age 3 that makes the Fade more interesting.

My opinion is that people are lazy....the fade got dumbed down in DA:2.

It needs to be improved....

Strike a balance between both versions. :wizard:

Thats what happens when developers pander to lazy gamers.

DA2 characters are too weak willed in the fade.
